why do you have to re-enter your password for an update

It gets on my nerve cos you have already purchased the item and put in your password so why do you need to re-enter it for an upgrade for an app?

To access the iTunes store. Anyone can view the iTunes store, but in order to give you access to a download Apple requires you log in. Likely, for some type of security and tracking. Not sure the exact reason behind it though.

To verify that you actually purchased the app and didn't hack/trick it into thinking there are updates.

Let somebody look at your phone? What's to stop them downloading whatever they please?
