View Full Version : 30" ACD is yellow compared to 20" ACD, why?

Okay, so I have the new Quad 2.66 Mac Pro with the GT120... I have had the 30" ACD for awhile now, but just yesterday I added a 20" ACD, via the DisplayPort to DVI cable then to the 20"... The 30" is a direct DVI connection... When I put a finder window that splits in between the two screens, which are side by side, the whites on the 30" are a little more yellow and the 20" they are more grey than white... What gives?

the 30" is at 2560X1600
the 20" is at 1680X1050

Is this normal?

Quite possibly for a 5 year old display that Apple could have had lying around since then...?

Otherwise, that could be a calibration issue as it could be a different LCD panel than the 24" (also the 24" is LED and glass, which I don't think the 30" is). The same can happen to some MBP's in which Apple does the same thing. Most have found using a customized calibrated profile fixes the problem, but I don't know if that would be suitable for everyone.

The 30" is probably correct and the 20" is probably too blue.

You correct it with a calibrator.

Displays naturally yellow over time, so comparing a several-year old screen to a new one will show it up.

So you are saying the 30" is going bad? Would a calibrator fix it? They are both about 3 years old, but the 30" has had more use over the years... Is it really as big of a deal as I'm making it out to be?

depends on the line of work you do.
if you're worried that one day it'll show power on and the next day it won't, i wouldn't be too concerned. but if you're worried that the PDF you're looking at is not exactly what others on your team is looking at before they send to print... i'd be worried.
