I am looking at purchasing a 2g iphone, to use skype on. I have found an iphone that is jailbroken, and unlocked, but wondering if it is possible to re-lock, and re-jail(?) the iphone, so I would be able to install the skype app without any problems. Will I encounter problems if the phone stays jailbroken, or unlocked?

You can leave it jailbroken and unlocked, it doesn't really matter. If you want to relock it/unjailbreak it. Just plug it in and hit "restore" in iTunes. It's easy. :)

can you have a locked jailed iphone without a contract, or any service provider? Basically making the iphone an ipod touch with a speaker and microphone?

If you want a gloified iPod, you just have to hacktivate it.
However, the only US carriers that are able to support the iPhone are AT&T and T-Mobile.

the reason i want a glorified ipod, is that I am around wireless all the time. I can then make calls with skype. With an ipod, I could not as I would need a microphone, and speaker. so I am asking if I can have an iphone, without hacking it, to be able to have a glorified ipod?

If it changes your mind at all, you could use Skype on an iPod Touch 2G.

I wouldn't mind using skype on an ipod touch 2g, but there is no mike.. hence the use of an iphone. built in mike, and can use it like a iphone, without a crap loud of cords dangling everywhere

Don't the new headphones come with a built-in mic?

would the apple headphones work? I would prefer an actual phone with no cords, but the one cord would work.

Yes, the new earphones come with a mic so you can use VoIP apps on a newer iPod Touch.
