I recently puchased a G4 ibook (OS 10.3) from a friend. I'd like to cahange the name in the "my computer" account but don't know how to go about doing so aside from re-installing.

I tried creating a new administrator account and then changing the information, but the OS wouldn't let me do it. Any ideas?

Actually it's called "my account"

Is there anyway to change the "short name"?

if you are talking about where it says "Steve Job's Computer" on the Login window, you change it in: System Preferences --> Sharing

you'll see the field to change it at the very top... if that's what you are talking about...

if you want to change the short name of an account:
/Applications/Utilities/NetInfo Manager
choose users, then the name of the user you want to modify
unlock it and change the name field to your new short name.
you'll probably have to change your home to: users/new short name
i'm not sure if it will rename your old home directory so you might have trouble copying your old home folder to your new home folder...
you might have to do it with terminal...
post if you need more help
