d90 is the new one. i bought the d80 ages ago and that was about half way through product life

No, the D80 price already dropped when the D90 came out. The D80, (if you like it's exposure metering system) is a great buy right now

Not because of the D5000, that's a D40/D40x/D60 replacement. The D80's replacement was the D90.
