Hello Forum Members,
I have been reading on MacRumors for about 2 years and last week I finally gave my order for a 24" iMac with the ATI 4850 and 1TB HD. I ordered it on May 11th and it arrived on May 18th. It says it is assembled in China, but the shipping originate from the Czech Republic.
It replaceses an old Dell with crt monitor. Quite a difference this is!
I just want to let you know, that I have learned so much from reading this forum. It is great to have so much inspiration in one place! Thanks!
Best regards

Congratulations! I have the original iMac Aluminum 24" that was released August 2007. To me, they are just great machines. Mine has never let me down, apart from the occasional third-party beta or rogue software being dodgy.
Let us know how you get on, and tell us how you feel perhaps after a few days/weeks/and months.
I love hearing about stories like these!

SoerenNice set up. I just replaced my old Dell CRT as well 2 weeks ago with the new iMac. It's MUCH nicer. In fact when I walk by the office I always think I do'nt have a computer on my desk anymore and I don't have that stupid CRT taking up half the desk.

Soren, a machine as elegant as a mac is only fitting for someone who lives in a city as beautiful as Odense!

How can you tell where the iMac was assembled vs. where it shipped from?

You can't :D
I guess they all are manufactured in China but there's place in CZ where they build up BTOs.

Yes, they are all Chinese made and I guess the European countries get their stock from Europe.

Hello Forum Members,
Thank you very much for your replies. The machine is working flawlessly. So far I have not noticed any dead pixels or screen issues - and of course: No freezes :-) It just works! I have been enjoying the large screen having multiple documents open when doing work - truly a big help.
I am a busy at work these weeks, but I am looking forward for getting time for some photo editing on this thing. Capture NX2 runs very smooth. NX2 is usually neither pretty nor smooth or intuitive, but it has some very good tools and it does a very good NEF/RAW conversion to jpeg. This iMac handles NX2 very well (at least so far).
I mentioned the shipping/assembled details since I have noticed several forum members have discussed this. The info was on the brown box that contained the white iMac box on arrival.
I have been a Mac user for about three months now. I got a Macbook for work and I loved it from the very beginning. (Actually I am typing this message from the Macbook). However: I am very satisfied with the my purchase of this iMac as well. The large screen and the raw power of this iMac allows me to run several applications simultaniously and have multiple documents open at the same time. All this on a silent running computer!
Best regards from a happy and thankful switcher

Mine has a sticker on the box that says it was assembled in California, from Chinese components I am guessing.

Looks like you got the top of the line iMac there dude. I'm also like you in that I purchased my first Macbook like 2-3 months ago and now I want an iMac to replace my old PC that I have at home.

Lol, good choice. I for one just dove in and bought it with little to no information, as I often do with things, and thank God it didn't turn out to be a disaster. In fact, I'd peg it up with the best purchases I've ever made =] The laptop I have is a disaster, and it cost me more than my iMac! But iMac is great, love it, hope you're having great luck with yours!

Congrats! I just received the very same machine. Well, mine is the 2.93, but everything else is the same. :D
A beautiful piece of work, and it blows away my old 20" iMac. My favorite feature is the keyboard. This is the best desktop keyboard I've ever used. So fast, such a light touch. Makes my PC keyboard at work feel like pounding nails with my fingertips.

I agree. The keyboard is a pleasant surprise. I thought I would dislike it and either would have to find Apples's previous model or a regular PC keyboard to hook up to the iMac. However: I doubt the white keys will remain pure white over the years. Time will tell. I thought Apple would change the colours of the keys from white to black. It would have matched the keyboards of the alu MacBooks/MacBook Pros.

Agreed. Sticking with the white keys, white power cord and white mouse for a black and aluminum iMac is an odd choice - very un-Apple in my book. As is the white iPhone dock that came with my black and aluminum iPhone.
Give me a Bluetooth aluminum keyboard with black keys and the number pad and I'll be all over it. In the meantime I'll have to make do with my wired, white-keyed keyboard. But it sure does feel nice!
