PowerBook 540C. I used to dream about that machine, and even now, I'd love to get my hands on one. Such a groundbreaking design.
I am in search of the ultra-rare PowerBook 550c. Supposedly Apple only made these for the Japanese market. They are like a 540c except they are all-black (not grey), they have a 10.4" active matrix screen (larger than the 540c's 9.5"), and they have a full 66/33MHz 68040 processor (not the slower 68LC040 in the 540c). They also come with the PC card cage built-in, I believe. They are super hard to find, and in the 12 years I have been on eBay I have only seen one up for auction, ever. Here are some photos:

I remember reading about the 550. That would be a cool machine to own, but I bet it'd cost a bundle.

2.33 GHz MacBook Pro Why: It is the fastest non unibody MacBook Pro with a reliable graphics card.
The 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz non-unibody MacBook Pros didn't receive a batch of faulty NVIDIA chips like the 2.2GHz and 2.4GHz did.

I'll take a macIIfx. I seem to remember the editor of Aust Macworld buying one of these back in the early 90s' I think it cost him about $10,000 and he had all sorts of plans to use it around the home. I wonder how long he hung on to it for and what he ended up doing with it?
Failing that I'll take a se30. Matter of fact nearly did but the ebayer only accepted pick up no postage :-)

I've wanted to have the original Mac, the G4 Cube, one of the colourful iMac G3s, the Pismo PowerBook, and the "lamp" iMac G4, at various times. Apple has gone through so many amazing form factors over the past thirty-odd years.

I own:
Powerbook 170: I bought it for 40$, pristine condition. Ironically, the most reliable computer I own. I want another one, so I can cram in netbook guts, and have a Snow Leopard 170. The one I own right now is maxed out.
iMac G3 Indigo: Also in great condition.
PowerMac G4 FW800 2X1.25 My main computer, paired with 23" Cinema HD Acrylic.
I want:
20" G4 iMac
17" Powerbook G4
Xserve Any generation
Xserve RAID.
Pretty much any pre-G3 PowerBook
My old Mac ideology is to have one original, pristine, and then have another modded to the extreme in modern technology. :D

I have 3 imac g3s, one of them is the tray loading CD. I have several Apple laptops needing parts. and an ipod nano 16gb.
Growing up, I always wanted a Pizza Box.
And now I want to add to my collections more ipods, some ipads, and any g3 machine, preferrably laptops since they take up less space and many have SCSI ports. I like g3 imacs also because the tray-loading can load OS 9 very well, and slot-loading can still load OS 9 and they have Fire Wire. I like to use OS 9 as much as possible, but I use Tiger because Opera internet browser is available on it. OS 9 is my favorite Mac OS and also iOS.

I had a 9500 for a long time. This computer from the mid nineties could handle an obscene amount of memory for the time (1.5 GB), several drives (I had a burner, two 10,000 SCSIs and two boot drives all running at the same time), and two video cards and USB in the PCI slots which weren't even half full.
The daughter board CPU (dual 180 mhz) was swapped out for 300 Mhz and 500 Mhz G3 cards respectively.
The 9500 was notorious for having to remove the motherboard from the case to get at the memory slots, but even that didn't take long after several configuration changes.

In addition to my first post in this thread...
I must admit I've been missing my 1.33 GHz 12" iBook G4 for a while since I sold it last year in July. Not enough to trade back my netbook for it (I love that little thing :D) but I can see myself buying another one someday just for nostalgia purposes.
Also wouldn't mind a decent spec'd iMac G4 15" if the opportunity came along.

Depends on if you're holding out for a specific model. A single-processor G5 in good condition can be had for ~150ish if you look carefully. The DP models start around ~250, though. If you want one, though--do NOT get a liquid-cooled model. The cooling systems were only guaranteed to work for 1 year by the OEM--thus the massive post-warranty fix mess Apple got into with people who dropped $3k+ on towers that started leaking green fluid 13 months after purchase. Even today, if you bring in a liquid-cooled model, you have a chance of getting it fixed, free--although it's not the sure shot it was a couple years ago.

I've always wanted a powermac G4 for some reason. Nearly bought one in 2007 for £300 as my first mac, but that was a little bit too much for an old machine, considering buying one now - but the inevitable "what would I actually use it for" comes up :(

For me there is a long list... anyway, here goes:
20" iMac G4 - Coolest. Computer. Ever.
24" White Intel iMac - Complements my MacBook and I prefer White
PowerMac G5 - first mac I really wanted..
iBook G3 - First Mac was one of these, need one back
128K - The one that started it all!
17" and 12" PowerBook G4s (Launch Versions)
QuickSilver G4
iMac G3 Bondi
iMac G3 Graphite
Quadra 610
PowerMac 9600
PowerMac G3
*EDIT - Forgot - G4 Cube 500)
Boy does a lot happen in approx a year and a half... :D - Now my list is as follows:
20" iMac G4
iBook G4
128K
PowerMac G3 B&W
PowerMac G5 Quad (Just to sit next to my Mac Pro and render)
and a Cube of Cubes (8 * G4 Cubes)
Quicksilver G4
PowerBook 540 (Just because my 1400s arent retro enough... yet)
However, I like to think that knocking off the 24" iMac (I got a 17"er instead as it fits on my side-desk) and the iBook G3 (Got a Clamshell - so nice to have the Mac that (re-)started it all for me back) is a start... xD

I always had slow, old macs. I loved them (especially my iMac g4) but they were a bit to old to use as a main computer. I still have all of them though. I even have 2 iMac g4's (!) but one of them has a burned motherboard. Kind of a luxury problem if you read how many people want an iMac g4.
Because of all my slow mac's I always wanted one of the newest iMac's. Just because they look really nice, are really fast compared to my mac's and have big screen. ;) And if I ever get a fast new iMac, I would love to have a maxed out g4 Cube as a secondary machine. They just look so awesome. :)

Very true, and this has always been my mantra.
I use PS 7 on my Pismo, and it runs just fine. Old versions of FCP are pretty solid and quite speedy on vintage machines. Lack of a current, supported browser is by far the worst thing about running older OS units.

Back in the day, I sure did love the the Pismo PowerBook. I kept that thing going for years. Such a marvelously well made and attractive laptop for its time (along with its similar predecessors).

Exactly. This is why it took until Final Cut Pro 7 (Studio 3) before I upgraded from a stable FCP1 rig, although if I went back I would miss Motion and Soundtrack Pro (Another product I have v1 of on my PowerBook G4).

A boss of mine at a part-time help desk job once surprised me when I learned that he used FCP1 on a G4 tower for all his professional jobs: like, legit commercial production work. This was in '09.
It's frustrating to see perfectly good machines get tossed to the side for the "latest and greatest." If you look in my sig, you'll see I have quite a few PPC units, all of which still see regular use. The Pismo is a rugged, durable, and highly practical portable, with its dual swappable bays and comfortable screen size.

I, like many others, wanted an iMac G4. Just today I read on the Apple Blog that the iMac G4 was a misstep.
Another notable Mac failure was the iMac G4. Introduced in 2002, the iMac G4 boasted a revolutionary design that placed an LCD display on an articulating arm, the “sunflower” design, as Jobs described it. “Why have a flat display if you’re going to glom all this stuff on its back?” Two years later, following a reception best described as lukewarm, that’s exactly what Apple did with the iMac G5.
http://gigaom.com/apple/steve-jobs-and-the-history-of-apple-product-development/
I disagree. I recall hitting refresh on my iMac G3 during the keynote waiting for the picture to show on Apple's website for confirmation, even though Time spoiled the surprise.

I spent years wanting for a 17" macbook with 2x 500GB 7200rpm drives, and since I had to save, figured with one of the future (at the time) i7 processors off the intel processor roadmap.
Here I am, typing on it! Took a few years to get here, but am now quite happy with my first real (not hackintosh) mac. :D
Now I just dream of being able to get one or two 1TB SSDs for any sensible money (like £150 each), but I think that'll take longer since a 500GB is currently >£1k.

From my experience of a 17" CD Mac under 10.6 - Id recommend getting a C2D model if there is any way you can afford it (Mine, as in my sig is a 1.83CD... cant run Final Cut Pro well thats for sure..)

Jobs looks so young on the Times cover there.
Let's face it, all iMac designs have been pretty revolutionary, at least up until the G5 form factor. While the pace of innovation has slowed somewhat, Ives is still refining the details with each update.

I have always wanted a Mac Pro with 12 cores. I do a lot of video editing. Which means that I need a lot more power. I may also be one of the few people who like to have the CPU unit separate. I am extremely OCD. I like to have a lot of empty space on my desk. Clean desks are good desks. Some of my other hobbies are using AutoCad, Google Sketchup, and other high-powered applications. Having the money for a 12 core Mac Pro would be awesome.

1) If you need a 12-core Mac Pro, you should be able to afford one. ie. If your an amazing video editor - you should be able to afford a 12-core. (Im a video editor and my Quad Core is plenty for me - what on earth would you need 12 cores for, Final Cut can barely take advantage of 4)
2) You cant've always wanted one as they only came out about 9 months ago.
3) You don't need a Mac Pro. You need a grammar book on conjoining sentences.
4) Google Sketchup is not a high-powered application, Sketchup Pro could be, but it should still work okay on a iMac. AutoCAD can be, but I doubt what your using it for is so high-powered just judging by your grammar and tone.

'your an amazing video editor' is incorrect. You need an apostrophe as it's a shortened form of you are - so 'you're'. Your is the possessive, which I don't think you wanted to use in this context.

I'm at a point now where I'm actually perfectly satisfied with my MBP that I've owned for over a year. It still seems brand new to me. However, I've been thinking about getting an iMac for a little while now, and may consider it in a few months.

You also might like to read up on what real OCD is, particularly in terms of extremes. Liking a tidy desk and having a boner for top of the line gear does not qualify.

I always wanted a 17" iMac G4; I find the 15" too small and the 20" too big. I finally did pick up one the other day for $100 off eBay. Bought a set of Pro Speakers and a new keyboard and I'm all set. Needs a stick of RAM to be decently quick and I"ll be a happy camper.
My next Mac purchase will most likely be a non-Unibody MacBook Pro. So much more elegant looking that the current Unibody MBP's.

I've always wanted a PowerBook G3... and now I've ended up with 2 Pismos and 2 Wallstreets  So be careful what you wish for! :p My 12" 867MHZ PowerBook died (logic board), and I've always wanted a replacement. However for $140 I picked up four 1GHZ to 1.33GHZ iBook 12" Laptops. So it replaces the 12" with more speed, good for running old games or software and the small size of the laptop helps keep it easy to store. Much easier than a 17" G4 iMac, much faster too. :)
If I ever see a Mac Portable cheap or a G3 All-In-One I may pick it up, however the CRT turns me off on those Macs. I have enough G3 iMacs as it is and I have no room for them. And of course I'm always free to buy more key lime iBooks. ;)

I've crossed that barrier, it's bad (http://stevenmatarazzo.com/Mac-List-2008.html). :p I didn't even count the iBooks, the G3 PowerBooks, and the other machines I've picked up since then. I wanted to originally sell some of them (back when a G3 tower was worth something), but by now they're not worth too much so I may as well hang onto the ones I like and the others for spare parts. Like my beloved Color Classic which thankfully has a twin brother with a LC 575 board in it, best $40 I ever spent, did a fresh install of 7.6 on it the other day, runs great, even goes online! :D
Oh, and how could I forget wanting a G4 cube? Someone locally is asking $100 for one and $150 for it with the CRT, but too much for me as of now. One day though, one day. :) Attached is a pic of the Color Classic online a few weeks back.

I had the same model a few months ago and let me tell you, it's the best computer I have ever owned. It was extremely durable (and I tested that after a good 3 foot fall on a tile floor), gorgeous, fast, and easy to travel with. After I sold that MacBook I have regretted it every since day since that time in December. Something about those and the latest MacBook Pro's are so elegant and well designed I find it hard to think how Apple is going to top it next time. My iMac is great and everything, but that computer was just amazing. I will say though that you'll need at least 4GB for Snow Leopard. Mine came with 2GB and it was starting to get a little bit tight, especially when browsing Safari, having a word document open, running iTunes, Mail, etc. You're really going to enjoy it, and while I did switch back briefly to Windows 7 (which is great, btw) I sold my HP yesterday and purchased a white MacBook circa 2007 for $400. It should be here any day and I'll enjoy using a MacBook again, though nothing can touch the aluminum models.

That's a damn shame, but the polycarbonate unibody MacBook's are nothing to laugh at either. They are quite a bit more sturdy feeling than the previous MacBook's were, and a great deal on the refurbished site. A few days ago they had the 2.26GHz model listed for $759 but it has since disappeared. Great deal for somebody looking for a Mac on a budget. It's alot easier to swallow at $759 than $999 IMO.

I like my pre-unibody White MacBook - feels plenty sturdy enough to me... Although it will need to replaced within the next 6 months (Early 2008 Machine, means its coming up to 3 years old, which is the time by which I aim to upgrade my Mac Laptop so I can stay within AppleCare - it helps the new 11" Airs look like theyll help my back).

I loved my pre-unibody MacBook very much. To be honest, the only reason I got rid of it was because the cracks in the casing were pretty bad on the bottom edges and AppleCare only replaced the top case, not the bottom. It had 4GB of RAM and was actually quicker than my aluminum MacBook was. I just bought a 2007-era C2D MacBook myself a few days ago and I plan to max out the RAM and maybe even an SSD drive when it gets here. Best part? It only cost me $400.

Titanium PowerBook G4. Why? I just have always liked those. I even had one for about a month with broken hinges. I still used it (as my main Mac) with the broken hinges.
I definitely love this machine. When it first came out, besides it being thinner than most laptops of their time, it had that titanium body which made it very unique.
Apple has had good designs since then, but nothing as far ahead of the competition as the TiBook.
While the original iBook was not nearly the same machine as the TiBook, I love my blueberry iBook and thought the firewire clamshell iBooks that came out later to be exactly what the original iBook should have been in every way. Both firewire back then and a DVD drive for playing movies seemed so advanced for such an affordable laptop and would have sufficed for most people's expectations. I don't remember if firewire iBook also had a CD burner, but that would have been nice as an extra, too. (EDIT: oops, the combo drive option came with the white iBook that replaced the clamshell)
Now if entry level Macbook Pro gets a Core i3 to replace the still relevant Core 2 Duo, that would be nice at the current price point.

Love the idea of the Cube, but I have no use for it. I may get one anyway, I don't know. I WILL get these, however:
- iMac G4- any size screen, I just love these
- 12" Powerbook 1GHz
- Powerbook G3 Pismo
And in my dreams:
- 20th Anniversary Mac
- Macintosh TV
UPDATE: Since posting this, I've acquired three classic macs: I scored a free working Blue iMac G3 and bought a working Pismo on eBay that I'm in the process of upgrading.
And just yesterday bought a complete but non-working 12" Powerbook Al 1.33 that I'm going to try and restore.

iMac G4 (any)
iBook clamshell 466
early Powerbook

Well my utmost priority-old mac is the awesome Titanium Powerbook G4.
I second dmmcintyre3 and 63dot claims about the TiBooks. That screen design, how it just floats. Plus I don't think I've ever seen a bezel so damn thin. So beautiful :D
I bought one for AU$150 a few months ago, in near pristine condition. 1Ghz with a gig of RAM and I believe an upgraded 80GB HDD. That thing flew, with not one mark on the exterior paint work  though for some reason (forget why) I sold it for a considerable amount not long after. I have been in search for one ever since, though nothing has cropped up of yet :(. I wouldn't go lower than the 867mHz model personally, as the option to run Leopard is nice (if I decide to go beyond Tiger on a machine).
It's the sale I most regret :(
My old Macs as of today:
Sawtooth G4/400 with Panther/Tiger
Quicksilver 2002 G4/933 with Tiger/Leopard
*Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8Ghz with Tiger/Leopard (with the beast nVidia 6800 Ultra DLL)
_______
2009 13" Macbook Pro for my Intel fix  with SL/Lion
*I dumped an old 400GB 5400rpm laptop HDD into it, and it scores higher in Geekbench (1616) under Tiger than Leopard does under the 7200rpm desktop HDD (1585)

Funky thread!
I actually never wanted a PowerPC Mac, or older for that matter. I flirted with the idea of a Mac many times over the pre-Intel years, but even my best friend getting her G4 mini didn't sway me.
Then the Intel mini came out and I was hooked. I suppose it's the Mac I'd always wanted. It's the original Core Duo and I'll never get rid of it, it's just too cool. The old minis had something about them that the new slice of aluminium (with no optical drive... in a desktop... come on) severely lacks.
But really the Mac I've always wanted is the one that's coming out next. I'm always looking to the future, always wondering what Apple are going to unleash down the line. Now the 13" MacBook Air has a backlit keyboard again I'm sorely tempted to get that in the next couple of months, but I'd really like something with integrated 3G. Ho hum.
It's funny, my 2007 MBP has a sentimental value I don't think I could let go of. It's awesome. Despite my Rev A MBA feeling a million times faster, hence why I use it over the MBP (god love SSDs), I could quite happily give it away when I'm done with it.

I bet the first generation 11" Airs become collectors items like 12" PowerBooks did.
I thought about that also, but I think the 12" PBs were classics only because they were discontinued and until 2010 were the smallest metal laptops Apple had made.
So unless the MBAs are discontinued (which I doubt they will be), my guess is that the early ones will not become classics.

TiBooks have always been fantastic machines; I love how the unibody MBPs are somewhat reminisiqent of the TiBooks, black keys and all.
I miss mine dearly, a 400MHz unit signed by Woz (thankfully, I still have the signed bottom case)... If I find a good price on one, perhaps I'll spring for it. I'd love a clean 1GHz unit with the Radeon 9000.

I recently found someone with an Apple II in working condition that he wants to get rid of. Just gotta wait until payday to get it. *sigh*
I got rid of my unibody MacBook a couple months ago and I already regret it.
And for the longest time I've wanted an iMac G3

When I was younger, it was the candy coloured clamshell G3 iBooks that caught my eye, followed by the G4 white iBook (so sleek!), then the titanium G4 PowerBook, then the G5 iMac when it was announced:D
Shortly after it was the Macbook Pro 15.4" which is to this date my first Macintosh. Still running great, I can't see it failing me any time soon.
Nowadays, though it's the Mac Pro I've got my eye on. Maybe now that I'm a grown-up I can actually grab myself one soon :p

An iMac G3 and a clamshell iBook, both preferably in blue. I loved the 1999-2001 design era at Apple, their current designs, while undeniably nice, look incredibly dull in comparison.

The G4 Cube... easily the most beautiful computer I've ever seen.

At work we used to have Mac LC's which I always enjoyed using. For a long time, I wanted one with an Apple IIe emulator card.
Now that I have an iMac, I can let desire drop, but if I saw one available, I would be hard pressed to pass it up!

For the historical and artistic value I'd quite like an Apple-1:

Not technically "mac" but there lies its pretty roots.

I'm kinda glad that Jobs took the idea. Otherwise we might all still be using 80 column text displays. ;)

I have always wanted a Quadra. Preferably a 700 or 900, but just about any Quadra will do.
I know this is kind of silly, as I've seen several available, but... Well, it's a question of lacking room for a desktop system. I just can't swing it, so... :(

I am selling an iMac G3 Ruby Red with Mac OSX 10.2 + OS 9 - Excellent Condition,
It is in perfect condition and I could not find any scratches or dents on the unit, but please note that I will not be including the mouse and keyboard.
It can quickly dual-boot between Mac OSX 10.2 (Jaguar) and Mac OS 9 - Both of these Operating Systems are amazing to use.
It features a slot-loading disc drive, which still works perfectly.
It comes with lots of software including:
Microsoft Office,
AppleWorks,
iMovie,
iCal,
iPhotos,
iChat,
Safari,
Internet Explorer for Mac,
Route 66, and A LOT MORE!!!
I'm selling @ £75, But I am flexable if you want to make a offer !!!

I can finally strike the iMac G4 (USB 2.0) off my list.
Picked one up a couple of weeks ago for AU$76.
Now I need to get it up to 2GB RAM and have some fun! :D

I've always wanted a 128k Macintosh... The G4 Cube's are gorgeous aswell, they're one of Apple's worst Macs ever IMO but they're just beautiful... :p
And a Macintosh Classic, I kinda feel sorry for the Classics, Apple tried to bring back the Macintosh experience from '84, but it didn't work... I sort of see a Macintosh Classic as an orphan, abandoned by Apple and the public.

Now for me, all the old collectable stuff. I'm waiting for a kind of job lot deal. Old Lc's G series old MacBooks etc.
I'd like to find mint boxed stuff, but something tells me that is not going to happen. Also old touch stuff in boxes.....In short, a collection of all the old Apple devices from the past.

If I had to pick one old Mac, I'd take a fully loaded SE/30. I'd run A/UX on it.
I used to run A/UX on my IIfx.

My "Dream" Computer since I started collecting apple computers was an iMac G4. I've been fighting for them on ebay for a couple weeks now, and keep getting outbid last second :(. I'd love a 20", but Settling for a 17". Sit this next to a nice set of Harman Kardon Soundsticks.
Others would probably be a Purple iMac g3, a G3? G4? Cube. The whole setup with the matching keyboard, speakers, monitor. a lot of the late 90s stuff was pretty cool.
