Hi Folks,

I connected my iPod (80Gb, white) to iTunes, uploaded a few mp3s, then disconnected. Nothing unusual. Turned it on again to find that all my mp3s and videos have been deleted.
In OS X it's still saying that I have 8Gb free - it's not like they've been wiped or anything.
Is this a known issue? Is there a recovery procedure for something like this, or will I have to restore it?
All my mp3s are all over the place, so would really like recover what I have, rather than have to upload everything again.

Cheers!

I had this happen to me on a pc once. Your best bet will probably be using this app http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/. Basically it is a reverse iTunes. It has the same interface as itunes (so it will be simple to understand how to use), but instead of loading music to your ipod it takes music from you ipod and transfers it back to you itunes.

I hope this helps.

It's unclear what you meant by "uploaded a few mp3s"

Here is the definition of Upload: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Download

Perhaps you want to say:

Sync library to iPod?

Add music to library then sync?

Extra music from iPod to add to library?

I just added a couple of albums to the iPod then ejected it.
I added the files to iTunes then dragged and dropped them to the iPod.

Since none of the stuff's been wiped, I'm assuming it's a glitch.
Does this thread help? http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/help-ipod-not-showing-songs-297631/
It seems the OP in that thread had his music down under 'compilations' incidentally, he put music on his device the same way that you described doing it. Try syncing without the drag & drop?
