I recently bought a refurb 2008 imac with the 3.06 ghz and the 8800gs, my question is this....aside from the graphics card and the bigger hd and faster memory, what is the difference between the 2008 imac 3.06 and the 2009 3.06, the reason I ask is, why cant I put more than 4gb of ram in this computer everywhere I look says its the same chip and same mobo, so why the slower ram and the 4gb limit on it? sorry if this is a dead horse, so to speak, but i couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere online.....

Looking at the iMac (2009) (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP507) and the iMac (2008) (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP485), differences are as follows: the 2009 iMac doesn't have a FW400 port, but does have an additional USB 2.0 port, the Minidisplay Port technology as opposed to mini-DVI, and supports DDR3 not DDR2 RAM.

DDR3 is getting more popular these days. So that's why it has DDR3 and not DDR2.

Plus, at least the 2009 iMac's with a GT120 or GT130 have an nVidia chipset.

But it ain't so powerful as people thinks it is. Benchmarks shows that gap between 800MHz DDR2 and 1033MHz DDR3 isn't big, less than 10%
