Has anyone tried NexTune 1.0 (http://www.nextune.net/)? It looks like a cool program, however, I am still trying to understand just what it is. I see that NexTunes can create playlists. Does that mean it is a replacement for iTunes? I am hoping someone knowledgeable can explain just what NexTune is.

I just received notification of NexTune 1.0's availability and I also am unsure what it is supposed to do. I haven't been able to find any info on this other than what is on their website. It does look like it creates playlists based on attributes such as pacing and bpm and allows you to assign more than one genre to each song. Does it automatically assign bpm or do you have to input that yourself?

When I used a...ahem...PC with Winamp as my default player, I used a plugin called Moodlogic that allowed you to assign many attributes to a song that, in turn, would allow you to create a mix of songs based on a particular mood. It was great. If I was happy, mix up a happy set of tunes. Same for sad, depressed, mellow etc. You could then "dial in" the mood to get the mix just right. I don't know if NexTunes does this as well, but if it does, I'm all over it.

Also, if it automatically assigns bpm, then I think that might be worth the price of admission right there. No need to click your mouse along with the beat to determine bpm.

I guess I'll have to download and play.

I downloaded Nextune yesterday. I have a ton of yet-ripped CDs but I've been waiting for a management app good enough to warrant my time. This nextune app is very cool. It lets me assign all kinds attributes like emotives (senuous, happy...), ensemble (sax, trumpet..) and about 20 more. This thing even auto-calculates bpm based on the attributes I enter then makes a playlist automatically with my songs ordered in ascending order by tempo (accelerando style!).
There's also a referencing field that lets me cross reference my ripped file to a CD index number.
It takes time to get a handle on what this app can do but it makes iTunes a much more serious tool for the music collector. It ain't cheap ($29.95) but now that I know what it can do for me, its a no brainer.
Sweet. :D

Why is it so hard for some of you to believe that someone else can build a capable app aside from Apple? There are lots of apps out there much better than the iApps. The one benefit of the iApps is that they come standard on the system and can be used by anyone who gets a Mac immediately so that you can actually do stuff with it right out of the box, as opposed to a PC where you can't really do anything unless you install decent software.

I like iTunes, and I use iTunes, but people can easily build something better than iTunes if they thought about what people wanted... That's why iTunes itself keeps on being upgraded....

NexTune can do everything iTunes can plus so much more. version 2 just came out. I used to hate making playlists, now you can make playlists that are hours long in a few seconds, but adding a few characteristics you would like. you get a whole bunch of songs profiled by NexTune for free, or if you subscribe for a small cost they can profile your whole library.
Plus you can buy and trade used CD's at the same place.
Amazing!!!!:D :D :D
