General Performance of OSX 10.5.7 on an iMac

Hi there,

Is it just me or has the general performance of a early 2009 iMac running 10.5.7 just decreased dramatically when you installed the update.

I have found that the boot up time has got alot slower.

I have also found that when you boot up iMovie 09, it takes alot longer to be ready than it did 2 weeks ago (before the update)

My system is as follows;

iMac 24"
2.93 GHz Processor
4GB Memory
640GB Hard Drive
NVidia GeForce GT120 256mb memory
Wireless Mouse (Irrelevant)
Keyboard (Irrelevant)

All answers would be appreciated

Are you sure it's not any 3rd party add-ons or enhancements? The update didn't seem to change anything on my 2008 2.4ghz imac
 
Add On

I dont have anything installed like that. The only thing I can think of is that AppTrap I installed. Will that effect anything?

They are not huge differences but they are noticable.
 
General Performance since last update

Me too.

Since updating Os and Video card, Safari can't create a new page and freezes. Other appls will not close force quit or freeze after a few minutes. Is this also happening to others?

My 20" intel Core Duo is working just fine, no probs. Check your activity monitor and see if you can see anything eating up CPU or Memory.
 
Does repairing permissions actually do anything? I've heard so many conflicting reports, some claim it is epiphenomenal and that any speed improvements noticed are, in fact, placebos. The story is the same with the infamous "update prebindings" command.
 
No speed improvements on permissions repair.
It's only "needed" after some sort of installation (via installer app) that asks for an admin password. It's safe & smartest to do it after OS updates.

I say "needed" because it's not really needed unless one is having problems and needs to run the gamut of troubleshooting steps.
