iphone wont update apps

I went to update 2 apps on my iphone (3g), and the apps are FML (Fmylife) and minesweeper. At the same time I went to download palringo and while they were all downloading (via wifi) they will not download at all. I am not on a plan on 3g is not an option. Safari works fine, and so does everything else that needs an internet connection. Is there a way to erase these downloading apps, so I can start over, because it is clear that they will not download at all. Restarting the iPhone does not help... any ideas?

hubby had a problem where his phone would let him buy from the app store but could not update. I just restored his phone and everything worked fine. Just make sure you do a backup before.
