View Full Version : Is there a decent TV listings app?

I started this quest today because I was trying to find out what time the hockey game comes on, and what time the Tigers play.

Tried three free apps - What's on TV, Comcast, and i. TV.

With the first two, I tried searching for "Stanley Cup". The Comcast app only showed previous games and a lot of unrelated results. What's on TV displayes No Results. And I do have the correct provider and location selected for my area. Similar results when searching for "Detroit Tigers." If I browse the listings, which is clumsy and time consuming, the games are there.

i TV worked better with these searches. Although, there is no way to just search within the TV listings. For example, I searched for Dexter, which is on tonight, but only got NetFlix results.

I would also be able to see what's up coming on a particular channel in list form, not having to page though the time slots. None seem to be able to do that.

Does anyone know of a better app or maybe found work arounds with any of the apps I mentioned? TIA!

Instead of searching for "Tigers" or "Stanley Cup" while using Whats On. Use the search terms "Baseball" and "Hockey". You will see a listing of all those games with channel and time.

Thanks for the tip - that did work to a degree, but it brought up an additional category which eventually lead to the correct program.

I would think that any search function in any app would first look for all search words contained in the actual title of the program. But these appear to be keyword searches.

From my experience, all of the tv guide apps are lacking. Thats an area that someone could really make an improved app in. I use i.tv but there are certainly a lot of limitations, as you mentioned.

LOL, thanks for the heads up on Dexter. I'm surprised TV Guide has not come out with an app. There needs to be a TV app that you download the schedule a week before and that has multiple customizations. i.TV, for now, is the only bearable one.

I have been in the same boat. I can usually find what I need but it isn't a very simple process. I usually give up and look on tvguide.com. I will have to give "What's On" a try. I have not tried that one yet. Hopefully it will work out well.

You've probably already figured it out, but Dexter isn't new yet, they started showing season 1 again.

WooHoo... Go Wings!!! And what a surprise with the Tigers so far this year, eh?...

Sorry... Just had to throw that in... A little Cup Crazy in the house here, even though we've been displaced to BFK... Err... West Kentucky.
