Hi,
Sorry if this is such a basic question, but with the iPod touch, do you also need to buy a data plan from a Verizon or T-Mobile if you want to connect to the internet and check email?

Or do you simply use the wifi to connect to any unsecured networks you can find? And you're out of luck if there's not an unsecured network nearby?

thank you very much!

Or you can get something like Mifi from Verizon, and then you will have your own 3G wifi hotspot in your pocket. :)

Wirelessly posted (BB 8900: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

And iPod with a data plan would be an iPhone. LOL.

None of the phone carriers offer a 'data plan' for an iPod Touch since the Touch only works on wi-fi, and the carriers work via phone (3g), so the Touch has no way to communicate on its own with a 3g network.

If you are near a pay-to-use hotspot and don't have WiFi, then yes you would need to buy the service (Starbucks, Borders etc.). Otherwise there is no service required if you buy an iPod Touch. You never have to use the internet if you choose not to.

If you have Wireless at you home, just jump on that for free. Or you can always knock on your neighbor's door and ask them if you can have their network's password.

Or you could use a network you're allowed on, or use your own home network.

Geesh, some people.
