We all know what went down yesterday with M$ (OmGz RINg0 St@r!), and Nintendon't (well... in 2 hours). Now it's up to Sorny's two hour-a-thon to finish (http://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/1991858673) up strong.
We already know about the PSP Go! (http://kotaku.com/5273586/that-psp-go-sure-looks-familiar) thanks to some "leaks", but a release date, pricing and the nitty gritty details should hopefully be in Uncle Jack's bag of tricks for this morning. Maybe the Slim PS3? Price drops?
FFVII SHOULD be making it's annoucement this week *fingers crossed* as ESRB ratings tipped off to a release on PSN (http://kotaku.com/5273403/esrb-confirms-final-fantasy-vii-for-ps3-psp). Maybe to go with an announcement by Squeenix about FFXIII Versus? FFVII AC?
And of course, the metric tonne of games Sorny has lined up for the upcoming year like GOW3, GT5 (if it ever comes out), Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, MAG, Heavy Rain (already splooged on GTTV though), TRICO, etc. And then the same 3rd party stuff we saw from the MS conference.
Maybe, just maybe they bust out the motion controller to one up MS? (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/06/02/sony-ready-the-wand/)

God of War 3 and a price drop are all I care about. 50$-100$ off all models and I will buy a PS3 just for God of War 3, then back track to other great games like KZ2, and MGS4.

Jun 2, 2009, 10:16 AM
Price drop, PS3 Slim and PSP Go details, maybe some info on a PSP2 (very doubtful), and news on PixelJunks new games, Trico and any MGS news would be nice. I didn't know their show was today too. Damn you E3, you ruin my productivity
Oh and lots of PSP games. This system is my most played console now, give me more fun times!

PSN Tweaks, Team ICO Project and Heavy Rain game footage and I'm a happy camper.
Everything else is icing.
Note: I hope they don't go the Microshaft way with the motion control but I think Sony is dabbling into the 3D realm.

Drake looks spectacular on every level.
MAG looks like what SOCOM should have been.
PSP GO! in ceramic white looks lovely. I'm getting one. Full stop.... I don't care if I'll use it :D
250 Euro is pricey, but no doubt Gamestop will offer a trade up programme same as they did with DS - DSlite - DSi

Final Fantasy 14, 2010? Uh...?
MacRumorUser
Jun 2, 2009, 03:31 PM
mmmmm....
"The PS3 will be the only place you can play Final Fantasy XIV when it comes out in 2010".....
which really means (I'd wager)
Japan gets FF XIV 2010 - PS3 only...
Everywhere else gets FF XIV 2011, but we wont mention 360 and FF XIV, in fact we will deny it until E3 2010. ;)
Controller....
"This is a prototype".
No it's a DILDO with a purple head :D
and it isn't as impressive as the M$ NATAL camera peripheral thing.
Dagless
Jun 2, 2009, 03:36 PM
Maybe not as impressive but certainly more applicable to games. That actually looks pretty decent. Just hope the final controller looks nothing like the prototype one :D
FF XIV does look nice though. I think I prefer that look over XIII.
So many definite buys this E3 :(

sony showed lots of great games but also lots of 2010 games
oh and final fantasy 14 has the small subtitle "Online" .. which is my guess makes this an MMPORG
psp go for 249 euros ? = epic fail
(though the psp games looked great)
the biggest laughs:
1. sony announcing motion controller and demoing archer shooting just as wii did just 2 hours ago ;)... also the colored ice cone design ? microsoft sure looked better there
2. sony annnouncing a kart racing game the day after microsoft announces a kart racing game
so both realized at the same time that they need a mario kart clone ?
though the sony one with the level editor looks nice
3. no price drop for the ps3 ?... what ? 379 is still too much for a video game console even if it comes with lots of available games

That was much better than the Nintendo presser, but I don't think quite as good as the Microsoft presser. I think it would have been better if half the stuff didn't leak.
Also, I think that the PSP Go! is over priced. True it has 16GB of memory, but does that justify the $50 royalty in this economy? Even though it is really slick looking? I'd say no. Price it at $200 and that sell alot better.
Taustin Powers
Jun 2, 2009, 04:53 PM
After all this time they still haven't learned that the market wants cheaper stuff right now, even for the price of cheapness.
No PS3 price cut?
A new PSP that's more expensive than the old one?
Are you kidding me? Do they not WANT to sell too many systems?
EDIT: Other than, pretty good conference. Don't care much for the motion wiggly thing, but the kart racer looks really cool. And Uncharted 2, GT5, and God of War 3 are no-brainers. Where was Heavy Rain though? Ratchet & Clank?

Aww...I want the PSPGo! but for 249? (And it won't play my old UMD based games..which is fine, but its a clean break, without adding much new to the table)..but it doesn't add much for me....idk...PSP-3000 might be where its at!(along with a nice big memory stick!)

I salivate at some of these games. The Go looks and seems pretty cool. But I don't know if I want to get back into handhelds...and invest that much in a handheld.
In terms of the press conferences, all three put on great shows this year. I can now say this in terms of the conferences: MS < Nintendo < Sony

2009 E3 belongs to Sony, they by far had the best show out of the 3. Hands down winner, nothing else even came close.

^Actually I was to work so I was sneak watching it....I got screamed at twice for walking off the set:D
The Last Guardian....AWESOME to the 10th power:D (ICO/sotc fans know what I'm talking about)
That race kart game that looks like a fused between Little Big Planet and a racer is ACE...man did MM work on that?
FF14 shut a lot of fanboys up...I giggled a little watching that.
MAG is a MUST for me this year.
Lets Review the games for this year(Since people are forgetting them)
Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank Future: Crack In Time
Demon's Souls
Some other RPGs(White Knight, Tales etc)
Fat Princess
MAG...yummy
Pixel Junk Shooter
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
What more do you want in a year oh and don't forget the multiplatform games and the ones already released.
Sony did it big this year

Yay! Home at last! Time to watch the conference. From what i read on my ipod/just now, it seems usual business, nothing too earth shattering. Trico makes me very very excited, as does Uncharted 2.
PSP Go! price is what I expected, but still too much. Early impressions seem to back up the thought that the analog nub is just as uncomfortable as before. But GT-PSP and a new MGS is cool. After taxes etc, it's gonna be near $300... Thats more than a 360 and the same price as a Wii.
But MAG is meh with MW2/ODST this fall, as is FFXIV (online? GTFO with that crap) and I'm not huge on GOW, it's cool but nothing drool worthy.
PS3 Dildo looks really neat. Archery simulator FTW! Still... if the system doesn't launch with it, who REALLY cares? I don't wanna swing crap around to play Ratchet and Clank... (the subtle burn on MS was kinda funny). I think if Sorny had their conference first, it would have seemed all the more impressive (and had some pedo little boy to chat with)
And FFXIII <3 <3 <3

I wanted Sony to do something new to integrate the PS3 into the living room. So, this E3 was a bit "meh" for me.
Where's the music store? PlayTV or VidZone for the United States? TV show subscription service? Streaming video store? Netflix or Blockbuster integration? IPTV?
Not to mention software updates like New XMB? Standard voice chat?
This keynote was mostly about trying to renew (aka salvage) the PSP platform.

Wait, how does it do that then? Because from what I saw and know about both products they both have 1:1 motion. Sony's system can use the camera and overlay effects, but they can both certainly do that 'dodging around the room sword/gun fights'. I'd hardly call that junk.
Besides Sony (and Microsofts) systems are still being developed. What we get might be a lot less than what they're promising... Wouldn't be the first time this generation :D

Yea, I'm troubled...and my hands are on the larger side
And then Kotaku gives the buttons a positive response
On the more positive side, the PSP Go's d-pad and face buttons—square, circle, triangle, X—feel more precise, more "digital" than the squishier controls on the original PSP. They feel really tight.
http://kotaku.com/5276210/psp-go-hands+on-impressions
I'd love to get my hands on a demo or something...I'd rather not wait until Oct, if I'm going to end up buying a 3000(my 1000 is on its last leg, Wi-Fi and USB support are both dead, and volume doesn't work unless headphones are plugged in..and its a PAL unit, while I'm in North America)
Oh, Sony...at least the system seems to have life in it yet! RE:Portable, LittleBigPlanet(old news, but I'm still eager)...heck I might even pick up GT:PSP and Metal Gear

I've been the first guy in line to get a lot of Sony gaming devices. When I was in grad school, my roommate and I camped out overnight at a Best Buy in the middle of nowhere West Virginia with a 150 other gamers. When the PSP was released, I had one shipped to me in the Sudan by a long, tortuous and circuitous route that went from (I kid you not) Tokyo, DC, Geneva, Dubai, Nairobi, then Kampala and eventually to Juba, South Sudan.
PSPGo? This time, I'll pass.
There's a couple things I want out of a portable PSP type gaming device and the PSPGo missed on several of those fronts.
1.) Big local cache. 16GB? Sorry, no. 30 GB would have been the beginning of acceptable.
2.) MS Micro? Repeating the same mistake since Beta.
3.) Single analog stick?!?!?!?
1 and 2, I know aren't as big of a deal for most other people but 3. Wow. Seems to me that more than any other feature, PSP gamers have been screaming for dual analog sticks/nubs.
I can forgive the other stuff but for me to be remotely interested in a PSP for 249USD, it needed dual analog. For a $249 device, it needs to replace my PSP, not supplement it. What about my library of 40 UMDs? If there's no way to get those onto my PSPGo, I don't see the point.

I know I'm going to get flamed but....
GOW disappointed me a little. I couldn't quite figure out why, but after some reflection I think its simply a case that GOW & GOW2 were so incredible and pushed the PS2 hardware so far into the stratosphere compared to everything else, that GOW3 on PS3 just looks simply like a higher resolution version. Now that's not a bad thing, but I just didn't get the impression watching it that this was in anyway, shape or form a NEXT GEN GOW3. It was pretty much same old, same old. No new mechanics, no new surprises, and just not as awe inspiring spectacle as I found GOW/GOW2 to be.
As for best show this year. I'd say Microsoft won it for me. Natal was the only thing on show that looked truly NEXT GEN / NEW / INNOVATION / THE FUTURE. Whether it works, ever lives up to it's promise - we will see. But it was the stand out moment of E3 for me. Sure Sony have some great games coming, but again in regards to 'exclusivity' of things like Agent and FFXIV then I've been around the block too long to believe blanket statements, especially ones that lack concrete details. "Available only on PS3 2010' does not mean it will never appear on anything else. I'm sorry but in Press Speech, Semantics DO count.

GOW looked awesome, imo. The crazy battle in the background was sweet. The demo wasnt near as awesome as the trailer released a while ago where Kratos is fighting on the Earth Titan's back. Thats the video that makes GOW look next-gen.

Natal looked really glitchy when they guy was moving his avatar. They also didnt have very good software to demo it with. Sony's motion sense demo had great software to show it off.

It looks okay. The problem with games like this is all the tracks might look the same. I hope they have some really interesting track pieces and allow for insane amounts of variety otherwise one rubbish forest track is going to play just like another rubbish forest track.
But I hope the game itself plays really well (looks to) and that the pro-designed courses are decent. That's what I'm mostly interested in.

I'm interested. I can spend hours playing games like these as long as the editors are robust and easy to use.
Trackmania was fun, RollerCoasterTycoon3's editor is top notch, mix the two and add some cutesy peeps = ModNation Racers.
But as Jimmi says - as long as every track people create don't start looking identikit, that will be the real test.

Check it out! There will be some way to get some of your UMDs on your Go!

I'm actually interested in DJ Hero, Activision seem to have capture the feel of DJ'ing and the track listing looks cool. I'm reading a lot of negative comments about it because it is focused on Hip Hop/Pop.
Finally they have a game that where I can live out my DJ'ing dreams....not all of us want to be Rockers:D
DJ Hero looks amazing!

That news on UMD to digital copies is interesting...wish we had some specifics, but it would be nice if we had firm details, so I could buy a PSP-3000 sooner rather then later(or know to wait)

Yeah, I just read the UMD news on Engadget. That's definitely a plus and removes one of my reasons not to buy. Still a few more left.

Unforunately it doesn't sound as simple as it could be. I hope they fully announce the method of transferring games across soon, its definitely one of the reasons stopping me from getting a Go (as well as the M2 and ergonomics).

Has there been any word on battery life for the PSP Go?

PSP Go price in the UK?
£ 229.99 (about US$ 370).
Can we say OUCH? Thats around the price for a 360 Elite and only a couple of games away from a PS3! Meh. Guess I won't be getting one now.

I just read 5-6 hours.
I've been going back and forth in my head about this but at the end of the day, it's really a PSP in a slider form factor. Same SDK as the PSP. I have a hacked PSP that lets me carry around my games without the UMDs. I'd do $249 for a genuine PSP2 but for a gap product, I'm gonna pass.

Is that the same battery life as the current models? I kind of expected (hoped for) an improvement due to the missing UMD drive...

Supposedly, that's the same as a PSP-3000.
Believe it or not, not running off the UMD doesn't seem to save that much more power. I notice very little difference when I run the same game off of the MS or from the UMD. Might depend on the game itself.

It's got a shorter battery life because it's using a much smaller battery.

I had read on Engadget that the Sony rep was saying to expect 5-6 hours, same as the PSP-3000. I don't have a 3000 - what's the battery life on that?
Now here's something I would definitely pay $250 for:

It looks like the PSP Go has a proprietary USB cable (unlike the PSP 3000), and different composite and component A/V cables than the PSP 3000.
Of note, Sony will also be shipping a cradle for it. And Joystiq speculates it's incompatible with most PSP accessories including Sony's GPS module.

It is somewhat of a surprise considering all previous PSPs had standard mini-USB jacks.

I dont buy things that dont use standard usb plugs. There is absolutely no reason for anything to use a non-standard plug unless the company just wants to screw you out of money for a replacement cable.

Unfortunately I think this looks bad for the PSP2, whenever it arrives. Will that too have this non-standard 'communication port'? Will it use M2 instead of a popular, universal memory card?
And the worst bit... Will it have no UMD too? :( I like me DD but when it comes to handhelds and consoles, physical media is it. I was late onto the PSP scene but I managed to buy up every decent game for less than £10 each, or traded from friends or whatever. This simply won't be possible with a DD only device.

Funny to read this on a website about Apple. ;)
