Creating .ics file

Hi all,
i want to know how to create .ics file from iPhone.Once this file is created i want to sync with the iCal of my iPhone.Is this possiable?.I came across tools that genertate .ics file but these files are not opening with iCal.I also found some perl scripit to generate .ics file,but i couldn't make use of this.

I couldn't find a nicely-licensed C implementation but I'm sure they exist if you search.

I'm not sure if .ics files in apps will load in the phone's iCal. I get .ics invites in my email and I cannot load them into my calendar on the iPhone, I have to accept it on my desktop mail client, have it put it in desktop iCal, then let MobileMe sync it to my phone. :(
