You'll be holding off until the end of 2010. Minimum.
NOTHING uses USB 3 yet, and it won't be in any consumer devices until the middle of next year.

Hold your horses, we need to wait for companies to actually make products that use USB 3 first! At a long shot I can't see camcorders with USB 3 hitting the stores 'til holiday season 2010 at the very earliest.
If I had to guess I'd say we'd be looking towards 2011 or maybe even 2012 before all of Apple's machines contain if not USB 3 crds then at least the firmware capable of running them after an upgrade or two.

+1
Although it could be half a year earlier at the most than what he predicted.

No manufacturer is implementing USB 3.0 as there's no support for it at the moment.
2010/2011 for sure.

usb 3.0 should come out asap , it will be compatible with the older model so i dont really care if nothing supports it at start , its all about gettting the latest and greatest , please :apple: do it :(

If it supports nothing at the start, then it's very pointless to be excited for. Just keep your USB2.0 until it IS supported... fair?

Apple won't do it yet. I can just see their marketing campaign now: 'Here's the all new MacBook, with USB3, so you can get lightening fast transfer speeds with.....nothing'

Machines that support 3.0 will have to come before products. Why is that even a question?

But they wont make machines that support USB 3.0 if no products are using it.

Thats not true , usb 3.0 is going to be the new fire wire , that by it self is going to be well worth it

Who says? Products can come with 3.0 whenever, it's not like it's disadvantageous to have 3.0 in a machine even if you don't have any devices to work with it.

About 6 months to a year after all PC laptops have it. That is the way of apple. If they do not want to promote it they will not push it.

I predict it'll be the big update after next. The next update will be October, but USB 3 stuff will only be sampling then so it'll hit the macs at the next update.
I don't get why people think they won't arrive for ages - Apple have said they got it wrong with USB 2 and DVD drives. After all they've shipped with bluetooth 2.1 for ages and I don't think I've every seen any 2.1 devices.

No they won't. Putting the port there is useless without devices to utilize it. USB3 won't suddenly make your 2.0 devices faster.

This is about Apple putting it in their computers. If no PRODUCTS are using it, then Apple wont see any need for it and wont implement it. Like NewMacbookPLz said, its not magically going to make USB2.0 faster. Its more cost effective to keep USB 2.0, if no products are actually going to utilize speed of USB3.0 then why bother. The cost will just be passed onto consumers anyway.

Common ancestor....therefore the egg came first :p
If you want to go far enough back in the evolutionary chain to where replication was by asexual reproduction (bacterial mitosis), then chicken. ;)
Sorry :D
