Hey,

I'm looking for an App that allows me to control iTunes through my iPhone, WITHOUT using Wifi as I don't have a wifi where I am.

Thanks :)

you can still use wifi, even though you don't have it.

your Mac (I'm assuming you have a mac and leopard) can share it's internet connection by broadcasting its own wifi signal. Go to settings, and sharing, enable internet sharing, select: from ethernet(where I assume you get your internet) to airport, and you will now have wifi.

though I haven't tried this personally, I assume it would work with the Apple Remote app.

What can I do with that one?

hmmm, I really don't know if windows can do the same thing. First, do you have a wireless card in your computer? (if not, than there's no way for this approach to work) If so, check around in windows network settings for an internet sharing option.

I really don't know if it is possible in any way to control your computer from the iPhone without wifi. Maybe you should look into getting a wireless router.

Agreed. Without wi-fi, this makes things much more difficult. The reason being that the app would need some pretty technical jargon to work properly over 3G. You'd have to install software on your computer that could interact with iTunes, which would have to upload the data to a server, which you would need access to, which, by the time it is all said and done, probably would be very slow.

Getting a wireless router is your best bet. You can find them just about anywhere starting at around $40.

Problem is that I am in a college dorm and routers are not allowed. They will not work without our connections.

But my computer does have a wireless card!

thanks

If you have a wireless card, you should be able to set up an ad hoc network between your iPhone and computer. You can then use Apple's Remote to control your iTunes music.

Below are directions for doing this, which I filched from the SplashData help pages. I've included the Mac directions for the benefit of future readers. I also deleted the last step in each set of directions because they refer to connecting a SplashData product to the ad hoc network.

Creating an Ad Hoc Network

Mac OS

1. Click the Airport icon in the menu bar, and select Create Network.
2. Select options for the network such as name and if you wish to password protect it.
3. On the handheld, join the new network from the list in Settings > Wi-Fi.

Windows Vista

1. Open Connect to a Network by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Connect to
2. Click Set up a connection or network.
3. Click Set up an ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network, click Next, and then follow the steps in the wizard.
4. On the handheld, join the new network from the list in Settings > Wi-Fi.

This Vista setup information was gathered from this documentation (http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/help/293c504f-b944-4d5d-835c-f080129bd5dc1033.mspx). Here you can find information on setting up an Ad hoc Network in Windows XP (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx#2).

Hi guys,

Is there a way that I can control iTunes with the iPhone without any internet connections? I have a MBP, iPhone and a Airport Express. What can I do with this stuff without any internet, to control iTunes?

Thank you.
