If you are encoding in Apple Lossless, what is your highest and lowest encoded music? Mine are:
Geek Stink Breath, by Green Day, International Superhits, at 1147 and
Adelaide's Lament, by Vivian Blaine, Guys and Dolls Soundtrack, at 369.

Never tried it. It only gives me a quality setting of "automatic" when I set it to Apple Lossless, so I didn't even know you had a choice.

I think rendezvouscp is referring to the different bitrates you get with different tunes. The thing with Apple Lossless is that there isn't any choice - it automatically determines the best bitrate to use, and that ideal bitrate varies depending on the tune you are encoding. I haven't encoded anything in Apple Lossless format yet (I have no compelling reason to; AAC 128 kpbs sounds fine to me).

1111 The Last Stop by Dave Matthews (Actually, this entire album is freakishly high, 810-1111)
291 You Go to My Head by Billy Holiday (from Dinner is Served a Williams Sonoma CD, this cd in contrast is very low bitrate although the sound quality isn't that bad)

1411 is uncompressed AIFF (perfect CD quality). If you have a 291 ripped with Apple Lossless Codec, it should also be perfect, since ALC is a lossless compression. If so, wow - what a savings!

Behind the Sun by the Red Hot Chili Peppers at 1199, and (though questionable whether it's really a song) Song of the Century by Green Day
