View Full Version : Microphone

I currently have a Canon HF10 with the Canon DM-100 add-on mic.

I want to buy a microphone that I can use with my audio interface to do voice over's on the PC as well as possibly use when I or someone else is in front of the camera and their dialog is more important than ambiant noise.

I want something fairly affordable (ideally around $100 but no more than $200).

Ideally it would have both a 1/8" plug for connecting to the camera and a 1/4" adaptor plug for connecting to my audio interface.

I'm assuming a lapel mic is the way to go? Are there other types I should consider?

Any suggestions? Thoughts? Brands?

I've gotten good results from Sony's Lavs. I'm bad at remembering model numbers. Sorry.

The last project was shooting interviews on the floor of a major trade show in Orlando. No problem with ambient noise.

However the higher end mics are going to have XLR plugs. (As do the higher end cameras.)

What does everyone else use? Any more suggestions?

I use the red video mic.

If you want good quality then how about a compressor mic + a pop shield. That would be the best solution in a studio, but maybe not in the open as compressor mics are usually uni-directional so background noise is picked up easily.
