Apple's 2009 WWDC Keynote is going to start soon. Here's a photo from one of the banners from the second level of Moscone which reads:Threading has left the station.
Grand Central DispatchThe banner is referring to a new feature in Snow Leopard that will allow developers to more easily support multi-core processors for improved performance on the Mac.

We're providing live coverage for the event at MacRumorsLive.com (http://www.macrumorslive.com/) and all traffic from MacRumors.com will redirect to that page when the time comes.

Must mean it's Quicktime Platinum Edition. :D

Wow, that would be crazy. Why else would they have June 19 on there rather than June 8 (date of the keynote).

I can't imagine this will be anything too amazing, but we never know.

Upgraded iPhones: wonderful.
OSX: good.

However, we know what is coming, and it was all to be expected anyway. The iPhone wasn't going to remain a static piece of technology.

Everyone remember last year when the MacRumorsLive Page got hacked and loads of posts about Steve Jobs dying etc...

Hope you've tightened security this time. LOL

Otherwise we may all go to Engadget again :)

http://thedigitallifestyle.tv/

The above site claims to be having a live video feed from the event. even though this isn't allowed.

How I read the clever wording on their site is that they will have a live video feed of their people talking about whats happening live but not video of the actual keynote.

You thoughts?

Hopefully today we will get a release date for 3.0 and Snow Leopard which both I'm looking forward too soooooooooo much :)

I will only get the iPhone 4G/Video/S only if the physical appearance is radically different and lots more features other than in 3.0.

Look at other phone manufacturers they bring out new phones but never of the same build. It gets a little boring just having a new back and bezel to the iPhone. :(

BUT :apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple: FTW

It's just an icon folks .. no way Apple releases Snow Leopard on June 19. In the press release to announce WWDC here's what Apple said about Snow Leopard:

“Last June, we gave developers an early look at the powerful new technologies that form the underpinnings of Mac OS X Snow Leopard,” said Bertrand Serlet, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “At WWDC, we will be giving our developers a final Developer Preview release so they can see the incredible progress we’ve made on Snow Leopard and work with us as we move toward its final release.”

Here's the Press Release (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/05/13wwdc.html)

There's way Apple gives developers a final Developer Preview and then 11 days later releases Snow Leopard. It's time for everyone to calm down, take a step back and understand it will be released soon but not in 11 days.

I'm surprised some of you haven't gone as far as to count the number of icons on the poster, then cross reference this with biblical quotes and lunar eclipses to speculate the exact date Apple will release every Apple product from here on.

Yeah, that's what I'm sayin', man...

I mean, I've got Win7 RC on my PC, and I don't see *any* difference between it and Vista, excepting the cosmetic differences which still look like crap IMHO...

No faster, not more efficient, not more stable (or, to be fair, less stable)...

(On a separate note, this leads me to believe that all the "OMG! Win7 is so much better!!11!one!!" folks here and other places are a bunch of trolls.)

I am very excited to see what SL has got, and I suppose iPhone 3.0 as well... Now, if they'd just offer it CDMA through Sprint... *sigh*

No. Apple has announced that Steve Jobs will return from medical leave at the end of this month. Not the middle of next month.

They never announced he went on medical leave, and for an individual who is very private, why would they officially announce he's coming back?

I'm looking to buy a new mb too, but I'm not too worried about the hardware upgrades, that's a given now that the white is claimed edge out the 2.0 unibody. They'll certainly have to do something about that. As for snow leopard, it would help apple if they can get it out before the back to school surge (june 19?) Then every freshman in town would have a shiny new apple months before windows 7 hits the shelves and they'll tell their buddies to buy it. What I really want to see is them putting the battery technology from the 17" into the 13s and 15s. Then I'll buy. a mb with 10 hours of life? Just imagine.

I'm surprised some of you haven't gone as far as to count the number of icons on the poster, then cross reference this with biblical quotes and lunar eclipses to speculate the exact date Apple will release every Apple product from here on.

Cuz its pretty obvious Apple's design team knows how to tell the future, if you can read it right.

Actually, doing that foretells the exact date of each iPhone launch divided by the week number of the Panther OS launch - however, that is only if you include the average number of security patches in the 3rd week of every August - which is exactly why the Quicktime icon is silver, thusly signaling the anniversary of an event that led to the birth of Steve.

That's what comes from reading rumors for months. Read enough speculation and you'll eventually hear people predicting everything under the sun, and then, when something realistic happens, it can't compare. Well, that and people like to whine on the internet. ;)

That's the icon for the garbage collector (cf. the GC inspectors in Instruments (and I'm sure the pages around developer.apple.com)) which is supposed to have had a serious rewrite to support Grand Central Dispatch (cf. http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/autozone/autozone-77.1/README.html?f=text).

THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.

Leaving school to sit in front of a computer hitting refresh on a website for text info that will readily be available when you get home, probably in glorious HD video, without any server overload issues?

No offence, but that's got to be the dumbest excuse for bunking off I've heard in a long time.

Are you planning on buying anything straight away on the very off chance that Apple actually produce something new to sell today? If not, then missing out on education for this is ridiculous.

Most people here are either stuck at work (like me) or at home already having finished their working day.

As much as I loathe the site, could you not just have had Twitter message you in school? Seems ideal for this sort of purpose.

I have been a mac user 11 years everyone who is a mac user knows how secretive they are. If they have any banners saying "iPhone arriving what ever date, they'll be sheeted up, and the sheets unveiled after the keynote. I bet its like a sublinable message for the iPhone date

I wonder if it`d be fair to assume that these technologies/applications are now grand central aware????

Seems strange to have a banner declaring grand central is great and all and then have all these other logos around it. I think it`s well enough known that quicktime/xcode will benefit, but finder, iCal, iChat, Safari, Core Data & iSync???

Can`t make out the rest as the picture is a bit fuzzy.

If these all get a grand central snappy(tm) i will be well chuffed, well certainly finder will make me drool. :D

Except that I believe their replacement policy would allow recent purchasers to exchange the product.

Not trying to be a nay-sayer, just being somewhat bold (against prevailing opinion/rumor). My predictions for WWDC:

1.) Apple will review the last year's accomplishments.
2.) Apple will discuss Snow Leopard.
3.) Apple will discuss the iPhone 3.0 OS and give a few demos of same.
4.) Apple will announce and demo some new iTunes App Store features.
5.) That is all folks...

Thus, there will be no introduction or demo of new hardware. No intro or demo of the 3rd generation iPhone (that will have to wait until Steve Jobs makes his return in another month or so). No new iPod touch (that will likely be seen this fall). No new Macs. No new Apple TV. And certainly no totally new products (tablet, netbook, etc.).

However, Apple will likely do some modest feature or price updates on the unibody MacBooks. Whether this happens today, or tomorrow, or sometime in the next few weeks I'm not certain.

Don't worry, being the best thing that happened to mankind since penicillin, you can get updates/video via your iPhone. Remember, you get the full Internet experience in your hand.

...But I'm allergic to penicillin :/

I'm not allergic to my iPhone though!

A note to everyone asking these questions: What are you, daft? This is a developer's conference. For people who claim to be experts on everything mac, you obviously haven't installed the xcode tools or ever so much as thought the letters API. That is the "core" logo. As in Core Image, Core Animation, etc. The icons that people say look like appleworks are things in the xcode tools.

Not everyone is a developer there and neither are all the people on MR. I'm just an enthousiast and like to know more about the upcoming release of snow leopard and the iphone. Mainly the stuff consumers will eventually end up using and not how to produce thowse things using dev tools.

Apparently the fact that you have installed the xcode tools makes you feel superior to other people here, that's sad man, really sad...

Seems ideal for this sort of purpose.Stop talking about things you have no idea of. It was last class, a useless class that most people are skipping because it's pointless and near the end of the year.

Seriously, I just want the live feed. Do you feel cool lecturing people on the internet? Let us enjoy the event without e-thugs trying to act tough and discipline people.

Really, it's a fun event. Just enjoy it like I will be. :)

Yeah, but they bank on the fact that the majority of people don't know about that policy - or aren't in on the tech world enough to care

the june 19th date is significant. Because the default date for ical is in july.
So i believe that jun 19th is the launch of snow leopard. :apple:

I don't think so I'm a developer and the last seed update was very buggy , I don't think it will be ready till aug/sept

This is literally not the forum for that. Certainly there are more things important in life than Apple events. We are all here because we are enthusiasts. No harm in enjoying one's interests.

I know actually. I felt I needed to post some real-world matters to balance all the giddy schoolgirl posts in here.

Didn't think anyone would actually notice it in the fan storm... ;)

After the keynote, the laymen will demand developers make applications 64-bit compliant; use Grand Central, OpenCL, etc.

I've already seen an arrogant disposition in an open source community forum by one individual who demanded the project incorporate OpenCL. He was absolutely adamant that the speed increases would be dramatic, despite tests which showed otherwise. It was quite shocking, to say the least. His attitude displayed arrogance, but he did not seem like a troll.

I was reminded of the demands for a Cocoa-based Finder and the attacks against Adobe for not porting their suite to Cocoa.

Apple To spin off computer division.

Apple will be spinning off the computer divison into a new company
called NeXT Computer Inc. This transition will allow Apple Inc. to
concentrate on consumer electronics. The spinoff which will be named
NeXT Computers Inc will be selling the existing line up of desktops
and laptops, they will sport a new black color across the board, the
Mac Pro for example will be black anodized aluminum and will sport a
NeXT logo on the panels in the shape of a isometric cube. Owners of
AAPL stock will receive 1.5 shares of NEXI(new ticker symbol) for
every share of AAPL held. Rumor has it that Ross Perot is interested
in buying a large number of shares in the new NeXT Computer Inc.

I'm afraid we'll have to wait a year (maybe two) to get a full blown CS5 64bit mac version. :(
