I was home watching the Keynote from today's WWDC on the Apple site with my 15" MBP, (2.66ghz '09 version).

My wife came home and started watching the Keynote on the 1.8ghz/128ssd MacBook Air ... what a difference!

I've never compared the two side by side during video playback but the MBA was noticeably worse. The text on the screen was chunky/pixelated/blurry and not near as pleasing to view as it was on the MBP.

My question is why? Is it just the resolution difference, and/or the 1.8 to 2.66ghz difference, or the ram?

If I was shopping today, that in itself would make me at least look at the new 13" MBP in hopes video playback would be smoother and clearer?

Hi

That is surprising to me. I have tried the MBA side by side with the MBP at the Apple store looking at HD episodes from CBS to determine the quality and I couldn't see any difference. Note that I wasn't running any other app in the background but to me it was the same exact picture.

HD version of MBA sometimes would stutter but never the 1.86/SSD version.

I didn't notice any stuttering video on my Air (1.86/128 as well). Flash and Skype sometimes make it annoyingly hot (60-75° C), but that's due to implementation. If you want to do a serious comparison of video playback, use a file from disc (so as to eliminate possible connection issues) and try different players... I for one would be interested in such comparison, but I don't have a MBP (or even know anyone with recent MBP).
