Can I use my ATV to view bittorrent files? If so how?

Hi y'all. Newbie here, I just found the wold of bit tottent files and wanted to know if I could use ATV to veiw them and store them versus Vuze.

This is all new to me so please forgive if it is a silly question.

You can either use software like Handbrake to convert your files to ATV compatible files, or you can install Boxee on your ATV and stream files from your computer without converting them.

You can use iSquint to convert .avi files so they can be put into iTunes and synced with your ATV.

I use visual hub (you'll have to bittorrent that programs since the company is no longer producing it)

After visual hub gets the file optimized for ATV I use a program called MetaX to correct all the metadata tags and cover art. It also then adds it to my itunes library for me.

The easiest way is to patch your aTV, install aTVFiles and play your movies using that plugin.

Is this thread for real? You can't watch bittorrent files. You can watch the video files you download through bittorrent though if you convert them to an ATV compatible format.

I had a look at the app the OP was referring to. You are right - there is no way to directly download and watch BT files. However,as I mentioned, you can use e.g. ATVFiles to play them on the ATV.

Actually what I think geoffreak meant is that there's no such thing as "BitTorrent media", just like there's no "FTP media" or "HTTP media". BitTorrent is just a protocol to get files.

Also, you could very well be downloading ATV-compatible files via BitTorrent. Not everything is in DivX, you know.

Way to split hairs buddy. You know what the newbie OP is talking about. Obviously he's talking about the AVI's downloaded from bittorrent files. Cut him some slack.

I personally attached an external USB drive to my aTV and I play the files using the ATVFiles plugin.

Boxee has a built in torrent client that will automatically start streaming torrents (which you put in a specific folder) down to your AppleTV. Once complete you can browse/watch the file(s) contained in the Torrent. For a little more info see the Gizmodo article:

Yes, that is true. However Boxee is rather complex and sluggish. I don't really like it that much.
