Does texting use digital roaming?

When sending and receiving texts while abroad, does it incur the (exorbitant) extra charge for "digital roaming"?

If digital roaming is turned off, do you still receive texts?
 
I don't know about your specific carrier. But European carriers handle SMS and MMS not as data. They have separate a pricing. On the website of your carrier you should find information about how much a single SMS or MMS costs abroad.
