My sis is buying an emac..... can someone tell me:

- Are the speaker grills still removable?
- How good are the built in speakers? should I recomend she purchase some externals?

Cheers

I don't think the grills are removable, but I must admit that I haven't tried to remove them either.

I suggest you suggest that she try the internal speakers, but inform her that if she wants better sound she can buy external speakers later.

I'm sure I saw a post on this but I just can't find it.... its not a factor that will alter the decision either way, just wondering

Suppose so, just looking to save her money on P&P as she is a broke student.... thinking about that though I suppose it would be cheaper to just stick with the internals (Unless they are anything like the iBook speakers which truly suck!).

The grills on the newest eMacs are NOT removeable. They are removeable on the older models.

As for the speaker quality, they are OK. I recommend purchasing some JBL Creature speakers.

Hello! I have eMac-2 (ATI-7500) and:

1. I can't remove speaker grills (I suspect grills are detachable after removing cover -> removing speakers, but it may broke warranty).

2. Speaker volume is enough in quiet environment while you sitting in front of your computer, but to listen music or see film under normal daytime conditions I highly recomend external devices (speakers or connect to stereo system). In addition, if you try to turn volume totally up, you will see moire on screen and hear noticeble sound distorsion.

I think the same about new eMac model...

Have her get external speakers. If you turn the volume up much at all while using the internal speakers, you will get some waviness in the display (due to vibrations from the speakers). No big deal, just annoying. This doesn't happen with externals.
