Are the video cards solider on in the new iMacs? I want to get one with, but it seems the only place to get one BTO with the 4850 is through Apple( aka not fry's) This would also be nice to know for future upgrades.

Thanks in advance.

Its not replaceable. Get one with an 4850 if gaming is important.

rats! But that was the expected answer. What ever happened to that nVidia chip for laptops that would allow ppl to replace video cards?

So I guess I am off to the Apple store. Does Apple have the ones with the 4850 in stock at the stores or is that only a BTO option?

yeah man unfortunately the 4850's only come from Apple, so you can't get them from Amazon or Ebay new which kinda sucks you can save quite a few from taxes.

Is the 4850 a BTO only option through Apple.com or can an iMac w/4850 be purchased through the retail store as well? My mom's PC needs to be replaced (Sims 3 runs like a dog).

Also, Other than the lack of LED backlighting, is the 24" monitor basically the same IPS screen as the Cinema units? From my searches, it seems to be too, just curious.

Yeah i believe you can only get the ATI 4850 from Apple.com and that's it.

Yeah, an iMac is basically a stationary laptop with a big screen ;/
