View Full Version : New 500GB HDD: What problems with Seagate G-Sensor?

Hey there,

I would like to buy a 500GB HDD for my MacBook. There are two Seagate drives which might fit:

ST9500420ASG
ST9500420AS

I read about problems that occur if you buy the drive with the "G" in its name. The G means "g-protection" and such a sensor is already built into MacBooks.

Does any of you have experience with the drive? I mean, the ST9500420AS is sold out everywhere and I wonder if the ST9500420ASG would make it with "minor problems".

What kind of problem might occur when using the G-drive?

Any ideas?

If I remember correctly, the HDDs that have a built in G sensor can conflict with the G sensor (sudden-motion sensor) that's built into your MacBook.

I would just get the regular drive since your MB already has a sudden-motion sensor to protect the HDD against a fall or drop.

Too bad... Don't know what exactly "conflict" means. But there are some opinions like yours and therefore I have to look for one without the "G". It's sold out...
