View Full Version : Is jailbreaking an iPhone on 3G 3.0 going to be different than it is now?

Just because a couple of the cool little things like battery meter % and a few other things, I think I am going to jailbreak.
There are tons of instructions on the internet for how to do it, but they all seem to be for phones that have the current software.
I guess I am waiting until June 17th, then will download the 3.0 update from iTunes...THEN jailbreak it? Doing it the same way?
Are there any things I need to make sure of before I do jailbreak it? It just is something I'm almost completely unfamiliar with, but it sounds like you can do a lot of cool stuff that way.
Sorry if this is a repetitive topic...I used the search feature, and it's mentioned so much that it's hard to find a thread that is solely about jailbreaking. Plus I'm just curious if it will be any different w/ 3.0.
What are the best apps to download once it is jailbroken? Where do you find these apps?

No, jailbreaking will not be any different on the 3G running the 3.0GM. As 3.0GM was just be launched the tools you would use to jailbreak have yet to be updated. I'm certain after the official launch of 3.0 these tools will become available.
IMPORTANT! While the above holds true for the iPhone 3G the same cannot be said for the iPhone 3GS. The ability to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS should not be taken for granted. Wait until it's launch for further details.

The iPhone is forever vulnerable to Pwnage Tool/Quickpwn unless they update the hardware (like they did with the iPod touch 2nd gen) so the current 2G and 3G will jailbreak the exact same way. The dev team is waiting to release the final non-beta of the unlock/jailbreak until after the 3G S is released, because they don't want to compromise the exploits they use. Just be patient. :)

Pwnage and Quickpwn will be released shortly after Apple officially releases 3.0.

Yes most apps (jaibroken/non-jailbroken) have been update to be compatible with 3.0.

It's worth noting that the 3.0 GM has battery percentage already without requiring jailbreak. In case that's the most important reason for you.

Will there still be an issue jailbreaking with iTunes 8.2 on 6/17 (or whenever QuickPwn for 3.0 comes out)?
What do you think are the odds of, or better yet, how soon will a Mac running 10.5.7, iTunes 8.2 and an iPhone on 3.0 be jailbreakable by a version of QuickPwn?

The Dev Team tools will probably be released within a week after the 3.0 release. I'm just waiting for the 3G unlock for 3.0...If 3.0 is ever unlocked:(
Does anyone remember how long it was for 2.0 to be unlocked last year? (2G)
I can't remember.

How can you tell if a JB app has been updated? I have numerous apps I can't live without so I'm going to check them all before upgrading to 3.0 and re-jailbreaking.

how?
I don't know. I thought it was standard until I spoke with friends that do not have it. I did upgrade from a jailbroken 2.2.1 with numeric battery instead of a restore. But the numeric value is displayed next to the battery graphic.

2.0 came on the iPhone 3G, released June 30th, 2008.
DevTeam released yellowsn0w on Jan 1, 2009.

Based on what DevTeam has posted, it sounds like 3GS will jail break. 3.0 already has, they just have not pushed it out yet in order to stay "one step ahead of Apple"

My post said 2G.
And the 3G was released on July 11th, 2008. Not June 30th. The original iPhone was
released June 29th, 2007. Not sure where you got June 30th?
