Does 3G consume more battery?

Hi,

I have a jailbroken iPhone 3g and wanted to know if I always have 3g switched on, does it consume more battery?

I'm on the 02 network and have 3g always switched on from SBSettings. I don't think I need it on as I can receive calls all the time. My understanding re:3g was only for video calling and stuff.

I might be wrong so can someone correct me or answer the above question.

Yes. Things like wifi, bluetooth, edge/3G all drain the battery. Turn it off when you aren't using it to conserve power.

Whats the point of 3g for the iphone anyway?

Umm... like fast internet browsing when away from a wifi hotspot. It is a lot faster than edge. ;)
