I have the black iHome (not sure which model it is) that I received as a gift some odd months ago and I've noticed that it doesn't charge my iPod at all. Left it docked overnight, only to wake up to find it with no battery. It compatible with the iPhone 3G, so I tested it out, and it also doesn't charge that.

My younger brother also has an iHome and it charged his iTouch (until he got it stolen at school) and now, his iPod Nano. Works perfectly for him.

Would anyone happen to know a fix or maybe something I'm doing wrong or not doing?

I did a MRoogle search and nothing came up and since I'm currently at work, most of the results that came up with Google were blocked site =\.

What iPod model are you trying to charge?

DOH. Haha. I can't believe I didn't add that one in, as I looked up what generation my iPod was before posting.

Mine is a 5.5G 30GB iPod video.

Most of the sites I was able to get on here at work have said that the current iHomes are compatible with all the latest iPods. I'm pretty sure my iHome is current because it did come with an iPhone 3G dock fit.

It should be working. I would contact iHome (or whatever the company name is) and see if it's under warranty.

any chance you can try your iPod on your brothers device and maybe his Nano on yours just to see if the results change?

If the iHome does charge an iPhone 3G then it should charge all of the iPods. But, did it say iPhone 3G or Touch 2g on the box or are you just reading online?

The original iHome devices do not charge the 2nd gen touch or 3G phones as they charge using firewire not USB which is how the newer iPods/iPhones charge. I have an original iHome so I know this only too well.

First get an old iPod if one is available to prove it can charge the old devices. Also, not sure if you can get this message on a normal iPod, but on the Touch you will get an on screen message saying the charging isnt supported (or similar).

You might need to order something like this adapter to get charging to work: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OI2VGI/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

I have verified it works for my Touch 2G on my iHome and my Belkin in car adapter.

Alright, so looking at the box, I have the iHome iP9BR version.

Looking on the iHome website, on the iP9BR's manual (I seem to have lost it), it should charge the iPhone 3G as well as my 5.5gen iPod (it states on the box, "4th generation or later"). I just tried again with my iPhone and it's like it doesn't even read it. I tried with my iPod again and it's funny because right now my batter is ~50%, but when I put it in it says it's "charged."

I'm not too bummed about the charging as I do most of my charging at work, LOL, but it would be nice to play some music without worrying about my iPod dying.

It's probably just faulty and something's wrong with it. I'll just give them a call tomorrow to see if it's under warranty.
