What made you guys get this one versus the 3.06 one?

What made you guys get this one versus the 3.06 one?

2.93 to 3.06 is really no difference at all. If i were going to upgrade anything, it would be graphics card or hard drive, not the tiny bit of CPU difference. The only reason i didn't add a better graphics card is because it said 4-6 week wait and i wanted it right then.

Which one u getting? Don't u already have an iMac? I agree, the 3.06 only looks good on paper but performance wise, I don't think u will notice it at all.

I'm gonna probably order one Monday too as well.

I'm planning on buying the iMac 24" 3.06/4850/1TB - why am I choosing a 3.06? Wanted the quickest iMac possible, not that I need it.

Congratulations to the O.P for purchasing a very fine iMac

Me too. However, in my lifetime I will NEVER ever use 1TB so the 640 will be more than enough :D I can hardly wait until the beast arrives

watch what you say!

<congrats on teh purchase to the OP>

way back 15 years ago (or so) i had a harddrive that was 6GB and was told I would never fill that up. Well, that wont even hold my music anymore, let alone photos. and then add up the video and design files, 1TB is not going to be too far off anymore.

Woah there's a lot of people with some deep pockets in here.. :)

I'm still debating whether to get the 2.93 or the 3.06 (probably getting the 2.93). Its cool to have the top of the line one but, after the next update on these that's it.

Wow...lots of new iMac orders lately....I ordered a refurbed 24" 2.93/4G/640G/120GT Friday...it's supposed to arrive this week. Hopefully a nice step up from my 1.83 GHz Core Duo 2G RAM, 200G (7200 RPM though) Mini.

At $1,549 with a $100 printer rebate (I picked up a $96 Canon printer - so it's essentially free) I figured it saves over $200 over going with a brand new model. I bought my Mini as a refurb and it looked brand new and has served me well for a couple years now.

hey i have a couple quick questions to the origional poster.
1st i was wondering how much that set up cost you to put that Radeon card in there. and secondly im wondering if you could tell me how that card runs in any (if any) games you play on that iMac.
congrats on the set up im sure its amazing!

Woah there seems to be a lot people buying these right now. Yeah I could understand why you were trembling when you ordered it, very big investment.

Well I just did the same thing and ordered one online, same as viccles.

Seems like a lot of people are ordering these. Waiting until just after WWDC maybe (which was worth it because now we're eligible for the $10 SL upgrade). I just ordered the exact same machine as the top thread here (expect I got the wired number pad keyboard). I can't wait.

Wow very nice! I'm actually getting the very same setup very soon (but with the 1TB HD)! =]]
If you use a student discount, it saves a lot of money o.O or well I wouldn't know if it is "a lot" to some people but hey savings is savings XD
Basically If I were to get the same setup withOUT the savings, it'd end up being around $2400?? but with it I can save pretty much $200. This is including apple care =o
SO SO SO excited as well =]
Congrats~

I just ordered the 20" iMac $1,199 model. I only really use my computer for light graphic design, storing photos, music and some videos. Thats why I didn't go too crazy. I do plan on upgrading the ram though.

Any suggestions on where to go online for the cheapest (but quality) ram?

Yeah I got an iMac like a week ago and I thought it was going to ship out of China but it came from the Bay Area.

I thight it shipped out in 24 hours. I guess that's not so true. I paid the extra 30 bucks for 2 day shipping. I really hope it's here Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Received my new 24" iMac 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR3, 640GB H/D, Nvidia 9400M. Couldn't pass up the sweet deal, under $1200! Memory and H/D should be easily ugraded (and cheap) if you are somewhat handy.:D

Where did you get that price? I was thinking of getting the previous 24 inch 2.66 with the ATI graphics for 1099 after rebate but would consider the new one that you got if I can find that price.

I finally pulled the trigger this afternoon and went with a top-o-the-line iMac myself. A 24", 3.06 Ghz with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 card should be winging its way to me soon. I kept watching for one with the ATI card to show up on the refurbished list, but none ever did so I decided to go for a new one. I also went in for the "free" iPod Touch, which I plan on selling to help fund my purchase. It's been 5 years since my last Mac purchase, so I'm more than due for an update.

:D Add me to the list too! After months of debating I figured I wasn't getting any younger so what the heck - Yesterday I ordered the 24", 2.93 Ghz with the ATI Radeon HD 4850. How many times have you checked your order status - I stopped counting. Congrats to the OP!
