does Apple suggest a specific float concerning this? currently i have my code set as 10 pixels for the threshold, but it seems that even that might be too small and potentially be mistook as a tap.

iOS Appropriate Threshold To Distinguish Dragging From Tapping

well, i just realized that Spring Board is the perfect example for views that accept both tapping and dragging. using the mouse with the simulator, i was able to see that apple employs a 10 pixel threshold before moving the view after a users taps and drags.
