Imac renewing applecare.

Hey guys I am planning to get another 24" white imac, I am collector lol...and was wondering since it's off ebay but with apple care if I can renew it by buying more apple care?!?!?!

But I am concerned in that I read

"Apple is not obligated to renew this Plan. If Apple does offer a renewal, it will determine the price and terms."

Also the original owner has changed the hd, surely that does not void the warranty?

AppleCare can only be activated within the first year of original purchase, and I've never heard of it being renewed for more than 3 years.

No. You can only buy AppleCare within the first year of original purchase and there is no renewal to extend warranty past 3 years. "Original purchase" for refurbs is the day you buy the item, not the day it was purchased brand new.

After 2 1/2 years with apple care you can't buy more. Apple care gives you 2 extra years from the original 1 year warranty for total 3 years. Never heard of an extension beyond 3 years total.

I just sent an email to applecare asking this very question. I have a 3 year old mbp and the applecare will expire in 10 days. I've asked if I can renew it for another 3 years. I post their answer (if they do answer).

The answer is no, and I'll tell you why..Why would Apple want to keep supporting older hardware? Not just supporting, but fixing, for a flat-rate(essentially, since you buy AppleCare). The older hardware is, the more likely to break down. They wouldn't want to deal with fixing a bunch of old hardware. Especially since 3 years in computer land is eternity.

I'm seeing your point. At any pace... Applecare hasn't responded to my email (sent by applecare's very own email service... send us an email and we will respond). If they answer, I'll let you know, and I do see the logic in your logic (old machines break more than new ones so no applecare > 3 years).
