What has been your max rip speed?

I just hit 32.5X which is my highest ever. It was the new Shakira "Live & off the Record" CD. (Have not seen the DVD yet.)

I wonder what some of the Dual G5 folks are doing?

in AAC at 160kbps, I get 32x max, 26x on average, on my dual 1.8 ghz G5 with 1gb of ram and the DVR-107 DVD burner. I think if I get a faster burner, like 52x, that number would increase drastically.

Your probably right. On average I get under 20X, but I have a 52X CDRW that I use for ripping.

I wonder if MP3 ripping is any faster than AAC? I used 128 AAC encoder for some time and went back to MP3 160 so I can make MP3 disks and play them in my wifes car when I don't want to use the iPod.

Ripping speed is based on two major factors:

CPU load (encoding, error correcting, etc.)
Speed of the actual drive

If you have a super fast ripping drive and a fast CPU, you should see the drive's maximum speeds being closely realized.

Actually there is a 3rd major factor. Bit rate of compression. If you rip at 320kb/s for MP3s with no extra options and have a 1 GHz G4 and have a fast CD reader you can get over 30x rips. A Dual G5 should probably get in excess of 40x limited by the drive probably.
