I was wondering if there are any good books out there or any really informative websites which will help me really dig into photoshop. I really want to get proficient at this thing, just dont kno whow and where to start.

There are more, and check out Adobe's forum for PS. The PSElements forum is better and you can learn a lot there, too.

This isn't a free solution, but Virtual Training Company (vtc.com) offers access to all of their online software tutorial videos for $25 per month. Thier photoshop tutorials are quite good and cover all the basics. Plus, you can get through all of the lessons in about 12 hours or so.
