Windows XP pro x64 strange behavior on Mac Pro

I have Windows XP Pro x64 installed on my Mac Pro (2X2.66GHz, 5GB RAM) and it runs smoothly. However, every time when it wakes up from "Stand by", the machine slows down quite significantly with CPU running ~ 20% constantly (even without any program running.) And even worse, when I tried to reboot, I got the following error message:" Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Window root> system32\ntoskrnl.exe Please re-install a copy of the above file."

Has anyone had the same problem with xp 64? I would appreciate very much if someone could point me to the right track to get this problem solved.

Windows has this thing called, "Hibernation." What it does is dumps your current state to the RAM for quick access when you wake it up again. It is very wasteful and doesn't always reallocate memory back or put your machine back to the state you left it.

I recommend not putting it in stand by. To fix that kernel issue, see the Microsoft Support Website.

Thanks and I am doing just as you recommended: either keep the machine on or just turn it off. It turns out that kernel issue is related to this "Stand by". If I don't put the machine in Hibernation and it will boot up normally after a simple shutting down.
