G5...
Please don't take offense, but it is hard to know what a thread is about when it is titled "one question please" it helps if it has a relevant name, like "Dual G4 or 1.6 G5?"

Unlike everyone else, I'll actually give a reason behind my answer.
The memory bus on the G4s is crippled. You won't even get the listed speed out of it. The faster memory bus on the G5s is not crippled. You will get the listed speed out of it.
Using software that can take advantage of multiple processors, a dual 1.42 (or even 1.25) will be faster than a single 1.6. But for single processor tasks the 1.6 will be faster.

Apple generally keeps the cost around the same when they upgrade models. PowerMacs typically run from $1800-3000. I would be willing to bet that there will be an $1800-2000 model when the line is refreshed (probably a single processor 2.0 or 2.2)

Refurb. dual 1.8, or single 1.8 (if you can find one). They have some really great deals on these machines. If not, then 1.6 G5.
