It's a TV tuner. What sort of opinions are you expecting to hear? It lets you watch the tube on your computer, and this is nothing new.

As a side note... This is far from the first complaint I've seen you make about your purchase. Why did you buy a G5, if I might ask?

what complaint? The pci slot thing? yeah there close to nothing you can add to the PCI slots and the GLORIFIED PCI-X. I bought my G5 because i am a video production student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I use Final Cut Pro Extensivly.

How about putting in an AJA Kona card, RTMac card, PCI-X is too new to even have cards and you're whinning?

I don't understand why anybody would want to watch tv on a computer. But I guess there is a market for that. I personally like to watch tv, well, on a tv.

You a TV production student? Do your research!

part of researching is gathing opinions from places like forums. I dont need to watch TV on my mac now that i think about it. Its not like me display is bigget than my TV. Video Production, I hate most everything that is on TV. HAHAha. I just want an excuse to take my mac apart. I did want a sound card with a XLR solution

Actually, I was talking about how you didn't research graphics cards or the refresh rates of LCDs, but saw fit to complain about gaming. If you seriously wants games, you need a good CRT and a PC built for the purpose, not a high-end workstation like a dual G5.

That being said... Huh? Nothing you can add with PCI? I just did a search on 'PCI' at newegg and got 57 pages of results. Oh, and for someone who's down on PCI and does Final Cut, you sure don't seem to have looked around much.

i'd use this tv tuner to turn my Mac into a DVR, record TV to the hard disk, and use a DVI to Composite adapter to reroute the show to my television set. Fantastic.

Those PCI slots are there so you can put PCI cards in them. <cough> Thank you I'll be here all week, please remember to tip your waitress.

Seriously, the PCI and PCI-X slots in the G5 are useful for adding things like Fibre Channel and SCSI adapters, extra ethernet adapters, video capture cards, and additional video cards. Fibre Channel, high speed SCSI and gigabit ethernet adapters in particular will benefit from the higher bandwidth afforded by the PCI-X slots. If you want to hook your G5 up to a something like a huge Fibre Channel or SCSI disk array, then you'll be counting your blessings for those PCI/PCI-X slots. If you don't think you'll ever want to do something like that, then possibly the extra expansion capabilities of the G5 are wasted on you. Cue discussion/arguments about G5 iMacs / G5 eMacs / G5 PowerBooks / G5 iPods and anything except a PowerMac with a G5 in it.

As for opinions on the Miglia Alchemy TV card, there is a very helpful page of user reports here:

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G5/AlchemyTV_card_reports.html#storytop

You should be able to find something here which will help you make your purchasing decision. xlr8yourmac.com is a good reference site for just about any Mac hardware purchase.

Hope this helps.
