Yes, to keep the clock on time...

The rest of the power is provided by Power Over Wireless Ethernet.

Mains power...

Maybe it's got touchstone-like stuff built into the base?

Eh, it doesn't (wouldn't) need it.

Where the PSU is inside the, er... older... models of computer, the coiled receiver for wireless power now resides. You simply need to plug an emitter into a nearby socket.

^And that's based on real wireless power tech, not the pathetic induction of the Pre.

Just like most PCs (that I've ever built) there is a little "watch" battery to keep the time as Tallestpill said. I would not consider this to be a burst of life power.

you can unplug the power cord from the iMac. its probably done in that picture for aestetic reasons or that the fact its a cgi. ive seen the same done on TV shows… like how does that computer even work? wireless power induction?

Apple photographs all of their shots.

Maybe they project the image onto the glass since it's so reflective? It doesn't look like there is any depth to the image on the screen.

It really wouldn't be difficult for Apple to engineer in a small battery that lasts a few minutes for the shots so that it fits where the PSU would've been.

Or, they pulled the plug and took a shot before the screen powered down.

Does the Mac Pro show a cord?

where would the cord go....just off the page, would they show an outlet? a power strip, a UPS?

Photo of a cordless iMac + Leopard screenshot photoshopped on.

I'm such a buzzkill :p

Though I genuinely laughed when I realised what was wrong with the picture :D

Or they just took a photo with it on. Then pulled the plug, took another identically located and lit photo, and photoshopped them together, though I suspect they just pasted the screen image in - otherwise I'd love to know how long it took them to find lighting conditions that didn't give them reflections at that angle! It's the same thing whereby half the adverts you see for PCs have them running Mac OS X in the promo shots (and this was long before intel), and I saw an iPhone advert recently where the iPhone was clearly running Windows XP. Shudder.
