Would you feel bad taking a life?

Hypothetical situation

Let's say you live in a house or an apartment which can easily be broken into. You're a gun owner. Someone breaks into your house with intent to take all of your important documents/ expensive artwork/ whatever and they may harm you. Would you regret taking their life? Or would you aim to just incapacitate? I would aim for the chest and pull the trigger the second I had the chance to. Put everything aside considering what would happen in court afterwards.

If I felt it was entirely necessary to kill the person and I did, I would then accept the punishment that any other murderer would take. If it was worth it to do it, it's worth it to accept the consequences. Yes, I would feel bad.
