Licensing and the price of hardware.

You can throw in the businesses invested heavily into Microsoft's other software products as well outside of just operating systems. Apple is also a hardware company and Microsoft doesn't need to lose. Microsoft sells software for the most part. I do miss their Sidewinder joysticks though and Mechwarrior 3.

In before everything else.

I would like to see apple just stay as minor part of the pie, I like not getting viruses and bugs.

Mac OS 9 had viruses, when Apple was an even more minor piece of the pie. The size of the slice is not indicative of how tasty the target is. :D

Theres alot of things to consider here. First and most importantly, Microsoft and Apple have to very different approaches. MS wants to see there OS on any computer they can while apple likes to be the only person offering theirs.

Other biggies include:

MS is so heavily engrained into enterprise its hugely expensive to change to anything else.

MS is huge worldwide, Apple is mostly an American brand

If you like this search the archives, it's by no means one of a kind.

^ Yep, Microsoft's a worldwide standard, Apple really not so much. I handed my mac over to someone last week (just browsing the internet for travel plans) and she balked and went "I don't know how to use this"

it took me an hour to find the internet when I first switched to mac.

Why in the hell does it show Safari in the introduction and say "Quickly view RSS Feeds". No mention that that is the browser LOL

I actually found sherlock, and used that to search the internet for google, then used google to find firefox. . yeah I was such a 'noob'.

I've learned a hell of a lot since then, thanks to the macrumors community!

When it comes to the corporate world Apple would have a better chance of selling companies just the hardware (server) to run Windows on than getting them to switch to a non Microsoft OS.

When it comes to the consumer world, some people just can't see passed the $$$, and in many cases legitimately so, thinking more some places in Asia where cheap is the only option.
