Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.0

Apple today released the long-awaited iPhone OS 3.0 (Build 7A341) for both iPhone and iPod touch via iTunes. Users should sync their devices with iTunes and check for updates in order to access the new version.

While many of the features of the new operating system have been detailed over the past few months, a large list of features (http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/) are detailed by Apple:

- Copy and Paste: Quickly and easily cut, copy, and paste text from application to application. Select entire blocks of web text with a tap. Copy and paste images from the web, too.
- Landscape Keyboard: Want more room to type? Rotate iPhone to landscape to use a larger keyboard in Mail, Messages, Notes, and Safari.
- Spotlight Search: Find what you’re looking for across your iPhone, all from one place. Spotlight searches all of your contacts, email, calendars, and notes, as well as everything in your iPod.
- Safari: Enjoy faster performance, autofill user names and passwords, and more.
- Auto Wi-Fi login: Log in to a Wi-Fi hotspot and iPhone automatically logs you in when you connect again
- Find My iPhone: Find your iPhone if you lose it and protect your privacy with Remote Wipe.
- Shake to Shuffle: Give iPhone a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library.

Mine still works too. Bought it on June 29, 2007. But it's an 8GB. It recently survived a 10 second submersion in my pool as I jumped in after my 2 year old. It also spent 5 or 10 minutes in my jeans pocket while I dried him off and changed his clothes. No problems whatsoever!

It depends on whether you mean jailbreak or unlock. One of them means to allow non-appstore apps on the phone and the other allows the phone to run on a different carrier.

I think when iTunes restores all of your apps back it puts them back in alphabetical order. You have to rearrange them the way you want them.

I'd still like to know what Apple meant by if you download the GM version that came out last week, it would lock your phone in test mode. Is that the same as debug mode, therefore slowing down the phone overall? Does the version that came out today remove that test mode lockdown, even though they are the same build? :confused:

I think when iTunes restores all of your apps back it puts them back in alphabetical order. You have to rearrange them the way you want them.

What I do is sync the ones I want on the first and second page first and then sync again the apps I want on the third page. Rinse and repeat.

Until Apple comes up with a page layout solution this will do.
