Anyone else here buy the song Pictures of Matchstick Men by Camper Van Beethoven? If so, does the recording sound distant? I feel as if the song sounds like I am in a cave, not sure if this is what the CD version sounds like or not.

Thanks

I haven't heard that name in SOOOOOO long. ;) But yay! iTunes has Take the Skinheads Bowling! :) Totally adding that to my to-get list. I went and listened to the matchstick men preview on iTunes and my memory of this song is that it sounded like that (distant) on the radio too, but I don't have the CD....

Check out the original from 1968 recorded by Status Quo. Much more interesting, and yeah the Camper version does sound narrow and distant.

I looked up Status Quo only to find it not listed. I did a search for the song and came up with this: Pictures of Matchstick Men (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=7260889&selectedItemId=7260861). Can you identify that version as the original?

I Knew that the song was a remake but have never heard the original, thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, that's the original. It always was a sort of cheesy sounding stab at psychedelica but it has never left me. Must be played LOUDLY with lots of bass and lungs full of ganja.

funny I grew up in Ireland, and the Status Quo I remember was the 70's boogie rocknroll version that had hit after hit. I guess Pictures of Matchstick Men must have been their only U.S. hit and subsequently virtually no one in the States knows that Status Quo went on to become one of the biggest rock groups in Europe. I'm sure they're probably still around.
