With the release of iPhone 3.0, one of the big features anticipated was "Push Notifications". This system allows applications to send you notices even when they are not the currently running application. A running list of app updates can be scanned at AppShopper (http://appshopper.com/updates), but here are a list of apps we've found that support Push Notifications now. We haven't tried them all so can't specifically endorse them, but many are free to try:

- AreMySitesUp (http://appshopper.com/utilities/aremysitesup) (Free) - This version enables Push Notifications on site checks, so you can find out about your server status even faster!
- Tap Tap Revenge (http://appshopper.com/games/tap-tap-revenge-2) (Free) - Support for Push Notifications on iPhone OS 3! Tap Tap's icon on the Springboard will be badged with an unread count for new feed items. SMS-style alerts will arrive when you're challenged to a game by your friends.
- Star Defense (http://appshopper.com/games/star-defense) ($5.99) - Send your friends direct challenges via push notifications.
- Pollen (Push) (http://appshopper.com/weather/pollen-push) (Free) - Pollen is your simple guide to the pollen levels in your area of the United Kingdom with added Map View and Push Notifications
- Weather Alert (http://appshopper.com/weather/weatheralert) ($0.99) - True Apple push notifications
- AP Mobile (http://appshopper.com/news/ap-mobile-news-network) (Free) - Get breaking news alerts even when AP Mobile is not open.
- Leaf Trombone (http://appshopper.com/games/leaf-trombone-world-stage) ($0.99) - notifications on all pending performances and judging.
- E*Trade Mobile Pro (http://appshopper.com/finance/etrade-mobile-pro) (Free) - Enable push notifications for stock alerts and account alerts from the Mobile Pro settings page
- Hey Where Are You (http://appshopper.com/social-networking/hey-where-are-you-location-service) (Free) - HeyWAY uses Apple's brand new Push Notification Service, your alerts are delivered even when the application is not running.
- Textfree Unlimited (http://appshopper.com/utilities/textfree-unlimited) ($5.99) - On iPhone OS 3.0, you can get notified of texts even when you’re not in the app.

We're still waiting on the first instant messaging app to support Push. None of the major ones have been updated, though future support for Push has been announced for several.

I hope they have an opt-out mechanism for game invitations, or I know I'd be deluged with challenge requests and stuff.

My Facebook "notifications" go wild with game requests, "What's your stripper name?" requests, and other crap like that.

not yet mate... its needs an update to support push.

HOWEVER... theres this new push-promising "truphone OS 3.0" app which seems to be different from the normal "truphone for iPhone" and "truphone for iPod touch". I cant try it cos it doesn't work on my 2nd gen iPod touch.. maybe someone else can confirm that it works?

I'm I the only one that still can't Yahoo! mail to push my e-mail?? It sits on the mail server, and will download and ding when I click into the Mail application. Otherwise, it randomly downloads mail occasionally, but definitely not instant Push. It's my only major disappointment with the iPhone.

Hey Guys! Thanks for the shout out for Are My Sites Up!

Just to be clear, the app itself is totally free, but the version with the Push notifications (v2.5) is for premium subscribers of the service only. AND, it appears there was a little bug with them and not all users are getting Push messages properly, but the fix has already been submitted for approval.

Cheers!

Thanks, I went ahead and bought it to only realize that it still does NOT have push yet. Still a good app, I've been using the Lite version.

I find it strange that an IM app wouldn't be one of the very first apps available for push notification.

All push notifications go through Apple's servers which is separate from MobileMe. Basically, the iPhone keeps a connection to Apple's servers at all time waiting for the server to push the information to the device. Hence why push is only existent on the iPhone 3.0 OSX. If it was through MobileMe or BeeJive, then it would be enabled for 2.0 as well.

FYI, IM+ does NOT support push notification via the new features on the iPhone 3.0 software. It has always done a sudo push by sending an email to you when someone sends you a message. I have the current version (3.0) and it definitely does not have this feature.

As much as it would be fun for it to support push, it does not at this moment (their description specifically says "MESSAGE PUSH AND MORE IN APPLE REVIEW").

So it's in the same boat as all the IM applications.

Honestly, I was excited for push notifications, but it seems like no one was ready to support it on day one. That just means it's a lot harder for developers to use that one would like to believe.

The biggest problem is that we [developers] were only allowed to start submitting 3.0 apps after the Gold Master was released so there are probably loads of apps in the approval queue for Push Notifications. Apple must have a massive backlog to get through!

let me get this straight! in order for the Instant messages to work i must really have a push server ie Mobile Me??? unless the new software from !M+ actually works and actually works like its name (instant messenger).

Damm i do miss my blackberry at-least it did everything.

Why does apple have to be behind every1 else!

Am I the only person really excited/anxious for someone to develop/release an app that keeps track of where speed traps and cops sit on highways and then sends me push notifications when my GPS (in the iPhone) says I'm getting close to one of those points. The points could be verified by multiple people "tagging" the location as a speed trap or a hot spot. I think this has HUGE potential, anyone else with me?

Someone want to develop it with me? I've never developed for iPhone, but would be 100% game to collab on this if someone wants to help.

No you don't have to have a mobile me account for this to work. The developers have to use the apple push servers in order to send you the messages, the subscribers do not have to pay additional for this.

I find it funny that your blackberry could do everything. I never saw any games on it like the ones I see on the iphone. Nor any real browser for that matter.

Are running 3.0
Are running an app that supports it
Have push notifcations turned on

You don't need MobileMe. The other person posted IM+ as a mistake. On 2.0, you'd need MobileMe or any other email service that pushes in order to get notifications. With 3.0, you don't need anything.

You would need to actually have your app running for this to work and query the gps. A push notification doesn't execute any code upon arrival—it just tells the user there's data waiting in the app which prompts the user to either act on the request (launch the app) or ok/ignore it.

Have you seen any of the demo's??? Do you pay extra a month for text messages, this could eventually lead to the death of carriers charging you for data + text. Don't be so naive.

As has already been said, you can always turn it off or uninstall the app.

That said, I'm not that excited about this. There is very little data I want pushed to me, outside of what I could already get in a SMS text message. Maybe weather or civil alerts/emergencies, but that's about all (and I already do get some civil alerts via text).

Being on IM all the time is not something I care to do.

I think it's Apple that is slowly approving the apps because this is the first real test of such a large number of users and apps...

They have got to get it right with these apps before they can approve Skype, Facebook, Twitter apps etc...

I imagine it depends on the # of notifications these apps generate. If your phone is being pushed a notification every 3 minutes, I would think it would chew up a lot more battery than a bunch of apps that may send maybe 1-5 notifications apiece a day.

You have apparently not heard about an app called Trapster. It does exactly that, and is a very established site. While it is not live up to the moment, it shows you common hideouts as opposed to live ones, and then warns you when you get close with a blip on the map and an audible alert.

Speed limits are far too low for me to ever consider going anywhere close to them. Once speed limits hit 90 on the interstate and 70-80 elsewhere, i won't be following.. ever.

I'm I the only one that still can't Yahoo! mail to push my e-mail?? It sits on the mail server, and will download and ding when I click into the Mail application. Otherwise, it randomly downloads mail occasionally, but definitely not instant Push. It's my only major disappointment with the iPhone.

I can't get it to push, either. I actually created a yahoo account just yesterday when i saw that yahoo mail supported push while gmail did not. I've tested it out several times now but unless I actually click on the inbox i get nothing. I thought maybe its because gmail is my default account still, but really that shouldnt matter... the point of push is that the app doesnt have to be up and open right?

Or you could try obeying the law and driving within the speed limit?

Immediate financial win for you due to the lack of fines and less chance of injury or death caused by your driving.

Seems simpler than developing a push enabled iphone app.

Lower speed limits were not instituted for safety purposes. Back in the 70's during the gas crisis, speed limits were lowered because at the time, modern cars got better gas mileage at 55 than 65. Now, the speed limit remains at 55 for ticket revenue, even though most modern cars do better MPGs at 65 than 55. Also, driving at 55 MPH when almost everyone else on the road is doing 70 makes you dangerous not them.

Am I the only one who's slightly disappointed in Apple right now? We have multiple developers claiming they have software developed to take advantage of 3.0's features ready and awaiting approval, but only a few are out yet, and it seems only about 10 with push (Flick Fishing currently supports BT P2P and in game purchase, and Need For Speed supports iTunes music). When 2.0 came out there were hundreds of apps ready for download upon release of the upgrade. Apple should have had more of these 3.0 apps available upon release in my opinion.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't eh?

If the shock of millions of users installing thousands of push apps crashed their systems, I think apple would get pretty bad press. Like they do every time their system is overloaded. For once they take things cautiously and people can't wait a few days...

Good point. However, obviously Apple could have and may possibly have anticipated that scenario, leading one to believe that they would have developed a system that could handle that sort of load. If that's at all possible?

They almost certainly have, but there's a huge difference between plannign for something, and being able to claim preparedness. If they can allow load to increase in a managed way over a week or so, they can fix potential problems before they become an issue. Just turning on the floodgates to find bugs would be pretty messy if extra performance tuning, or hardware turns out to be required.

Not to go too far OT here.... while I agree with the safety of speed limits being moot—eg I would much prefer someone paying attention going 90 than talking on their cell phone going the speed limit—you are quite wrong about going faster saves fuel. In most cars it's the opposite.

On a dyno, you attain the best fuel efficiency when the car is in its highest gear, turning its lowest rpm. I would wager the majority of cars are probably most efficient at around 45/50. Taking that back out to the street, you now have to overcome wind resistance and that starts becoming a serious factor when traveling higher speeds like 55/65.

Cars have improved in both departments since the '70s but saying modern cars can save fuel by speeding is absurd. If your car has a tach, verify this for yourself. Speed up to 65 then drop down to 55. If your car doesn't shift back down (if you're in an automatic), you're wasting fuel. That's mainly why driving w/ a manual tranny you'll likely get better gas mileage since you can control the shift points yourself. For example, in my Mini Cooper S in 6th gear, at 65 I'm around 3000 rpms... at 55, it's just below 2600 (iirc, I'd have to verify but give/take a few rpms).

If you want to speed, fine, but know you don't get better mileage and you probably won't save time speeding in town. I've gotten my fair share of tickets as well until I realized what's the point. Unless you're going on a multistate trip, the time saved you can usually count on 2 hands, measured in seconds.

Yahoo push has always worked for me (well, as much as push does -- which means anywhere from "fast" to "tens of minutes"). You do have push enabled in the iPhone, right?

(Although I have a yahoo account, I use gmail instead, as gmail has more useful features for me. For push, I use mobileme, although I'd probably use yahoo for push if I didn't have that -- but I only use push as a "you have important email" notification, and read email via gmail.)

Well I do drive a manual, but in every car I've ever owned (automatic or manual), the current mpg rating on the computer has been higher at 65 than at 55. RPMs are not perfectly directly proportionate to your fuel economy, it's close but not perfect. You are right about the best economy being in the 40-50 range, but on the highway I can tell you from experience I do better fuel economy at 65 than at 55.

As far as speeding goes, I was mainly talking about the highway. When in towns speeding can be and often is dangerous, as well as very diminishing to your fuel economy as the increased acceleration and deceleration uses a lot of fuel. But on the highway, I can assure you that in all of my cars 65 is better on fuel than 55. And I could only assume that you'd be in the same boat as you drive a BMW, and in both BMWs my family and I have owned the fuel economy was better at 65. As it is in all the VWs and Benzes we've owned as well as a whole. Maybe it's because they're german cars designed to be as efficient as possible on the highway and at speeds well above American speed limits, but I can honestly truly say that my fuel economy is better at 65 than at 55.

As a side note, I know technically "speeding" is doing over the speed limit. But I live on Long Island where there's practically a 10-15 mph grace range with the police (depending on what county and is you're in a town or on the highway), so I don't really consider 65-70 on the highway "speeding". "Speeding" for us is going at speeds higher than the 75-80 range on the highway.

On topic, can anyone confirm anymore 3.0 featured apps?

I wish Apple had more options for push e-mail. The only thing you get is a ding and/or vibrate depending on your options and that's it. It would be nice to able to let you display part of the message like you would an SMS message and being able to directly reply to it. I imagine AT&T had something to say about this—since doing this would unsurp some demand for SMS.

I looked into writing an app like this for your own domain name that would let you choose which e-mails get pushed to your phone and which ones don't get pushed (spam for example). And also let you choose what gets displayed on the iPhone—for example, e-mails that come from your boss or friends could come in like SMS messages letting you preview them and then reply to them while others just arrive with no notification at all. That's easy enough to implement on a linux server with some scripting, procmail, or mailfilter, etc.

The problem comes with push notifications, at least form a developer's point of view, is everything has to go coordinate through your own server and then Apple's push server. That's easy enough if you're only handling your own notifications but if you have to handle a every user's e-mail becomes a real privacy nightmare. I believe there's workarounds for this but you don't exactly want to give other users your API key for notifications since that could potentially open the door to spammers pushing notifications to your system, etc.

I believe Snow Leopard Server is going to be able to talk directly to provisioned iPhones which would make this actually work. Then maybe once the open source community gets their hands on this setup they'll be able to emulate a push from a non Snow Leopard server, bypassing Apple entirely. That would be absolutely awesome.... like your own Blackberry BES.

Different countries, different lifestyles. In the New York City/Long Island area we live in a very fast paced society where like I said, in many areas there's a 10-15 mph grace range where your speed is not considered speeding, even though it's over the speed limit.

The new and noteworthy hasn't been updated since yesterday so I'm assuming not much has gone through approval yet.

Yeh, last time I checked the developer docs, you can name the action button whatever you want and assign an action to them as well as brand the application with a number badge. I'd imagine most AIM apps will do this.

Speaking of that, I think the other limitation I bumped into with that setup I mentioned above is unless you write your own e-mail client, I don't think there's a way to tell Mail which message you want to view straight out of the gate—partly because the message may have not even received by Mail yet.

Not sure push would be help for this specifically because it require that the server for the app had your gps information on an updating basis, and push is a one way thing. So for this to work you would need to keep the application running, which means you would not need push anyways.

Actually, I was referring to the os 3.0 and push features. I guess I didnt realize that push had been available on 2.0 for yahoo mail, but I had expected it to come to gmail with 3.0 and when I saw that it didnt, i looked elsewhere. My expectations for yahoo push were that i would receive my push notifications in real time as the mail comes in, but that has not been my experience. Even on yahoo's website it indicates that push to iphone means yahoo mail in realtime. Yes I do have push enabled on my iphone.

In response to illegalprelude, no, I am not saying yahoo mail is better than gmail, I much prefer gmail, but would like the option of a push email because my boyfriend doesnt have a text package and we email back and forth as an alternative. I think I misunderstood you? A reply box as in a text box for input? No, you only get buttons, at least so far. Basically in that scenario, you'd hit reply, Safari would suspend, and your aim app would launch and display the message where you could reply to it. So you would still need to hit the home button and click to switch back to Safari. So slightly less work actually replying....

If you're not planning on using google contacts or calendar on your iPhone, you can use mail2web as an alternative free push service. (The issue here is that the iPhone only allows the use of one exchange-based service, and both google and mail2web are exchange-based services.)

Also, if you don't mind having multiple email accounts and doing a little tedious setup, it's possible to keep gmail as your main account, but use the push mail service only as a "you have new email" alarm. You can also set things up to only push "important" messages, like those from your boyfriend. The downsides here are (1) there's some tedious setup, (2) you have remember to read/send email from your gmail account, and (3) you have to manually delete messages from your push email account. The upside is that you get to keep your gmail account, and that's the only email address that you have to hand out. If you have insomnia, the details are here:

 has to approve a ton of 3.0 apps. If that was the case Textfree would not have been one of the first apps considering that app has been on the top 25 forever and is less than half the price of Beejive. They'll be coming soon. My only question is if some of these developers implement it well.

The upside is that you get to keep your gmail account, and that's the only email address that you have to hand out. If you have insomnia, the details are here:

Amazingly enough, after changing nothing, yahoo push is now working. I had been testing it out randomly ever since I downloaded the OS yesterday and it hadnt worked even once. Now its near instantaneous! No idea why it wasnt working before. Thanks for all the ideas though :), i was about to look into downloading mail2web when I thought id give it one more chance... I might still look into that way to keep gmail as my main account, sounds like it would be good, if i ever have the time to figure it out

Umm... Is anybody else having problems with their regular push MobileMe e-mail. It's alsways worked perfect for me, but I just noticed it just stopped working... Ans It won't even let me send e-mails either... Internets working fine though... I have a bad feeling about this

keeps says The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.mac.com" failed. additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contacts and Calendars

It seams to be receiving e-mails fine now, but absolutely won't send anything and that message keeps poking up??

MM push email is working for me -- took around 40 seconds for a test message sent from yahoo. However, MM seems to often have status messages that say that something isn't working for some small subset of subscribers ...

I didn't test MM mail sending, as I never use that.

Or you can get the Trapster app. :)
No push notifications yet though.

I think that's actually a real good idea. That's an app that you could definitely charge for. The only problem is, you've just given who knows how many people who can actually code a great idea (i'm sure others have had the idea also, but still!). This is something you probably should have kept to yourself and maybe done some research on partnering up with someone. Wouldn't you hate it if you saw it in the app store in like 6 months for like 3.99 and then 6 months after that there was an article about it which said the developer of it had become a multi millionaire off of it? THat would truly suck!!!

I think it's supposed to push the update alert/badge to you, but it doesn't seem like it works that way. Occasionally I've seen a badge on my appstore icon without having gone into the store, but most of the time I have to first go into it before I'm alerted to any updates.

I don't think push notification makes sense in this case.

If you're actually running a GPS app, it can simply ask a server for a list of traps near you and display them as needed.

If you're not running a GPS app, there's no way for a remote server to know where you are.

This is one of those ideas that works best on phones with background tasks, like the GPS apps that change your profile by location, or warn you if you're going to be late.

The whole idea of Push Norifications is that the device stays connected to the Apple's Push Server constantly (which means that if Push enabled the wifi connection on the iPod Touch should probably stay on all the time)

There are many Push apps still waiting in the approving queue.

We have submitted NotifyMe (http://powerybase.com/notifyme) to the App store a week ago. Same story as many other applications. This is very unexpected - Apple is probably working on something or has problems. Three instant messengers, Twitter pusher and also our NotifyMe (hopefully :)) can produce a heavy load on their servers. It seems they went into connection issues or they are not prepared these days for such a load, due to iTunes and firmware 3.0 upgrading.

How Push works with NotifyMe

My Facebook "notifications" go wild with game requests, "What's your stripper name?" requests, and other crap like that.

I think you can tweak all the notification settings in separate to filter it out so it only notifies you of wall posts etc rather than new kfc gifts etc.

Do you guys notice on the details of the 3.0 update I did not see push notification at all. The only reason why are apps are not being updated is because it is still not ready for a 100% roll out. I wish Apple would have sent out a statement, push is a year over due, and push really only pertains to Aim apps, and as we can see now it is just not ready still. This is not a good move in my mind, more waiting, more checking for updates. This is a major dissappointment in my mind....

Yes, you use apps that support push but those apps are not IM. All apps except for IM are accepted in the AppStore. When it comes to IM it is obvious that Apple holds them intentionally for whatever reason.

And I totally agree that Apple should issue a statement and not keep us all waiting

Umm, where did you get this information? There are hardly any apps in the app store that support push, so I doubt all apps have been accepted. Apple isn't holding IM apps, they're just swamped with reviewing apps because of 3.0 compatibility. You do realize that almost every app was updated for 3.0? You also realize that this is the third day we've had push, and also the first day of the new iPhone. You haven't been waiting.

You see, when some apps with push support find their way to the AppStore and some apps like MAJOR IM messengers out there (Beejive, IM+, AIM) can't, it seems a little bit strange, don't you think? And if you add to this some complaints that sometimes push messages get lost for apps like StarDefence or AP Mobile (which don't have huge load on servers)... it becomes hard to believe that Apple is actually having long "approval line"...

To me, it seems a little bit silly that every single application update must be re-reviewed by Apple. Don't you think that at some point, Apple could convey a certain degree of trust to certain developers and enable them to push out updates in real time?

There should be some sort of process by which Apple certifies certain developers that have a history or releasing high quality apps--call it a "Gold Program", I don't care--and allow these developers to get their updates out in a timely way.

Not only would this be good for users and developers, but it would also free Apple's reviewers from having to review every single app update. Instead they could focus on reviewing new submissions with more scrutiny.

Ok, I do not agree with saying Apple is not at fault. When you post a major update like 3.0 it not only pertains to the phone itself but the Appstore. All those tiny little push apps that work like somebody else has stated do no require a lot of server space. What does require a lot of server space Aim apps. Now all the apps that are still under "review" that require a lot of server space are Aim apps. Now in a business sense if you market a program or a new major feature we should be able to use it right away, not wait. I contacted Beejive and they submited there application a week ago, now out of all the push apps don't you think there are a handful of heavy push server apps? I think it is another testiment that Apple promoted, marketed a program that still is yet to be fully functional and I would say 3.0 is a failure because not all of 3.0 can be used funtionally....

I hope a writer from this blog puts it out there that Push notification does not work, and Apple has not addressed the wait, the lack of notification of why Apps are still pending review. This is a good story, two days after 3.0 was released no push, no update on key apps. I believe somebody in that Cupertino base reads these blogs the more we raise awarness a bit the quicker we will get a response. A big F goes to the whole push dream we thought we would get from this update, we should have guess it would have gone this way with all the malfunctions they had demonstrating this update during WWDC. It doesn't matter, it's there - they probably don't list it there because the implementation is application specific. Just a guess. It works though I have only gotten one push message. Of course thats because I only have one Push application and that one application has only one push notice live. My guess is that more are on their way - Apple is probably trying to keep their servers alive for activation of the newer iPhones and 3.0 updates. Its only been out for a couple of days. I'm betting that the Push servers are just being warmed up.

I agree with you to a certain extent, let's say the reason for not allowing heavy push apps activated because of a new phone launch is the case don't you agree that it still not a good enough reason to allow us the users a chance to see what we paid for? I paid 15 bucks or whatever price for Beejive when it was first launched, my ability to recieve an update when a new firmware is introduced was taken away because of a new phone. That to me is fraud, they market the hell out of the AppStore, now to get the full value of the AppStore is to get updates in a timely manor when new updates are provided. I am sorry if you pay high prices for apps they should be updated specially since this 3.0 update effects these very high priced apps. It's like buying a steak but instead of getting a steak you get a burger because the steak wasn't cooked in time. Apple for the past year a whole 365 days have been promising all of us a new Push Notification system better then blackberry's and windows devices even making fun of such devices, but when promised we are let down. I'm this day an age of overpriced cell phone plans, phones, promised services we should be granted what we pay for in a timely matter. Sorry if I sound fustrated, but since I have been an early adopter of all iPhones, I give the excuse of it's a great phone in a promised early development stage that in time will be in a league of it's on. But what I truly should state we are paid fans of a dream phone that can be great, but never amounts to what is being marketed to us.

It's not even been a week yet and everybody's freakin' out on why [xxx app] doesn't have push. Updates take some time. That's true of any major update of any OS. You waited this long for push, what's another couple days?

Devs were actually given a lot of time to make sure their apps were 3.0 compatible and Apple wasn't even accepting apps if they didn't work on 3.0 for the last couple betas so you really should be bitching to the developer.

Sometimes it works, and you get lucky. Other times, your push doesn't come and well, that's it. I guess that's better than nothing at all, but if you've been waiting, buying and have high expectations for Apple, there shouldn't be any room for "Hit or Miss" Services.

And from what Ive seen, Either we are all just impatient, or Push Notification is alot less than we had excepted it to be.

After all this time Apple took for Push Notifications...

I can't understand those who think that Push delay is due to iPhone 3GS activations which overloaded Apple servers. Remember that we're talking about much less then 1million devices sold. And what is the number of iPhone OS users? Right - much much more. While activation is one time thing (one connection to activate - one response from the server) , the push notification is a huge load (imagine any IM app).

So I think that

1. those servers (who serve for activation & push) are not the same servers
2. problems with push (for NON-IM apps like TextFree) are confirmed muliple times

The questions is - do we have to wait untile 3.0.x is released or push problems are going to be fixed on the Apple side of things...

It's nice to see mentions of this technology on Apple's site :)

When the iPod touch screen is on and has a Wi-Fi connection, push notifications are received at any time. If the iPod touch screen is asleep, it will check every 15 minutes for a notification.

For what it's worth, I've been using the "Hey Where Are You" app with some friends and the push notifications work perfectly and are pretty instantaneous; much faster than actual text messages. Reportedly they do - they wanted to get the 3.0 compatibility update out first (they were reportedly working out a big bug that took higher priority). My guess their thing was compatibility was more important than adding features.

From what I heard, there will be another big update in another week or so.

Where exactly are you "hearing" these things? I'm not questioning the validity of your comments, just curious. There was a big bug in posting to a link or just making a comment and then it not actually posting just getting caught in limbo, is that what they were fixing.

Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could they transfer over all the people I've "hid" from my news feed to my iPhone Facebook app, it would be so great. I don't see them on my desktop, but I do on the app. If you do know someone on the inside, pass that one along PLEASE.

My AP News app has pushed about eight headlines to me today. It's nice to see some improvement

I've gotten a total of two alerts from AP Mobile. They were about 3 hours late too.

Oh well, I'll keep waiting I guess.

Beejive with push is now available. You need to launch the app first to enable push. Then you got to setting and you'll see a new section call "Notifications". There you can turn push on and off or go into each app that uses push and adjust the sounds, alerts, and badges on and off.

Works pretty good. Lightning fast at home over wifi. There was one hangup where it didn't push the text but the text was also missing when I opened that app. Need to do more testing. Very happy so far.

Both versions of AIM have push too. Anywho, I had to restart iTunes before it showed it, but BeejiveIM has indeed been updated.

My AIM has immediately been working as soon as I downloaded and restarted it, but I have yet to receive a single push notification from AP. Are some people still not receiving any?

Just got my first AP notification, but only one so far ... is there a way to select which categories I want to receive alerts from? (other than just having them on my front page?)

I have not personally confirmed this, hence the use of the word "reportedly"

Seems less buggy than beejive too. My MobileMe name won't login though... Oh well I don't use it for IM's anyways.
