Suddenly, a section of my iphone screen is unresponsive. The area of the screen right above the 'dock' area, where the last row of icons resides on the home page is impervious to touch. The rest of the screen works fine, but just this one strip of screen does not detect touch. There are no visual indications that anything is wrong. This has been extremely frustrating in trying to type both messages/emails and phone numbers.

I've tried restoring, resetting, installed 3.0, etc, nothing seems to help.

Any advice? Can't find any information on other fixes.

Sounds like you have a touch screen that has stopped working.

If you have restored the phone as a new phone then your just going to have to get the phone replaced from apple.

Will Apple cover the loss? I got the phone the weekend it was released, back in June '07. It's far from under official warranty, and I don't have any Apple Care on it.

It never hurts to call and find out, but sorry to say you're probably SOL.

Cheapest option is probably to get one used or buy a 3G for $99.

If the hardware warranty is expired on the phone they will not.

It would be 199 for the replacement phone because they will replace the whole phone.

Or you could extend your AT&T contact for another two years and get the iPhone 3G S. It's up to you.

Then no, Apple will not cover the loss.

There are places that will replace the screen, or you can get the parts and do the job yourself.

Well, I guess the timing is perfect, 3GS it is!
