I can do all that with my headphones (that are great and came with the phone, by the way) except control the volume. So volume is the only thing I have to reach in my pocket for. I guess this makes sense for people who use a different brand of headphones but that's about it.

So, does this mean you have to leave the screen on when while listening to the iPod? That would be a huge battery drain, not to mention walking around with a light coming out of your pocket. Plus, why would you need to swipe the screen for volume when you can just use the volume buttons?

The screen in the app is just a a black screen, and for volume, the 1st Gen iPod Touch does not have volume controls. For the others, there is no need for volume tho :)
