View Full Version : I Dropped My Iphone In Water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maddibabe23

Me, being the idiot that i am, was texting in the shower. I dropped it, go figure! so now in order to hear people when they call i have to put them on speaker fone, and i still have issues hearing them. They have issues hearing me from the other line as well. Any suggestions? Chances are I'll just have to save for a new phone =[

Lesson learned, that's the main thing. Do you still have warranty on your iPhone? Also gotta be careful that the water still isn't in there doing damage, make sure it's completely dry, and then look into getting a new 3GS (unless the phone you dropped was the 3GS, in which case I feel extremely sorry for you, lol).

there, I changed your post to a less annoying version

now, onto your question...why were you texting in the shower?
You can't wait 5 mins to respond to a text?

but in all seriousness, take it into an apple store and talk to a genius. They're not gonna replace it for free (obviously) but I think the replacement cost is like $200

much cheaper than the $700 you'd pay to buy a new one out of contract

ROFL! Who the f**k DOES THAT?!? Holy crap! As much as I hate to say it, you got what you deserved. Be damn glad you weren't texting while DRIVING! I know I am!

That aside, there are lots of places who will repair a water damaged iPhone. Google it or look on ebay.

Not to be a jackass but how could you expect to text in the shower and NOT mess something up on the phone?

that sucks, don't text in the shower. Same thing happened to my friend, I sold him my first gen for $25 as a favor and he dropped it in a sink full of dishwater.

You don't need to simply drop a phone in the shower to get it wet. Just standing there should do the trick.

AWESOME!!! Dude - you kick a$$! That is dedication brother.

Though, this may be a contender for a Darwin Award.

I got to admit, when I go into the bathroom, I am not bringing in my Sports Illustrated any more. I take the iPhone and catch up on some web browsing, like text from last night dot com - that is a great read when I am on the throne.

That sucks about your iPhone, try filling up a bowl with uncooked rice and putting the iPhone in there covering the iPhone. My buddy dropped his blackjack in water and put it in rice for like 2-3 days and it took all the water out of it. It may not work but its worth a shot.

JamesGorman
Jun 19, 2009, 04:15 PM
lol this is kinda funny, but I do feel bad for her. And you people harassing the poor girl need to stop..Let her be, obviously she realizes she did something stupid. And just like her, a lot of us probably have. And for the shortening of words, a great number of people do it, and I'm sure the people who criticized her for it even do it. So please stop with that. I realize it is a forum, but when the forum rules state that we cant type like that, than I would hope people would stop, until than, its not to bad, and I'm positive the majority of people can decipher what she means. This is by no means a professional environment where proper english is a must.

Anyway, Now that my little rant is over , you might just wanna go to the apple store and get a replacement, which like stated before, is a lot cheaper than buying a new one off contract.;)

First thing that comes to mind is, "Why were you texting in the shower?"

This makes no sense at all.

As for the iPhone, let it dry and see it works then. If not, take it to an Apple Genius and see what they say. You might be able to get a replacement for a few hundred. Cheaper than just purchasing a new iPhone.

I think this tread is BS and everything he said never happened, but if it did. Your warranty doesn't cover water damage. And they will know it was water damage as iPhones have sensors in the head jack that changes color when moisture reaches it.

dbell
Jun 19, 2009, 04:24 PM
get a bag of white rice, open the end and stick the phone in the middle. The rice will suck up the moisture, if it hasn't damaged anything it will be good as new.

What's sad is, I thought this was a thread to make fun of some of the people on this forum when threads show up about the same thing.

Honestly, that's like going outside in the winter with a pair of shorts on and complaining about how you stepped in snow....
Some of you people never cease to surprise me with your texting addiction.

Jun 19, 2009, 04:25 PM
well I'm not gonna point out the obvious here, too many other people have done that!!

Get a seal-able plastic container, fill it with un cooked rice and or Gel silica packs (you get them in new shoe boxes), put the phone in (turned off), put the lid on tight and place in there airing cupboard overnight.

The container with create condensation with will hopefully be absorbed by the rice and the silica packs.

hope it helps, I'd be gutted if that happened to me, good luck!

It happened to me when i went for business trip to Atlanta from UK i was in the hotel and drop my iPhone in the water

best thing is just leave ur iphone switched off for atleast 1 day and get hair dryer and spray it the dock charging area and the speaker area there isn#'t any hols where the hot air can go easily to dry any water inside..

just leave it alone it will come back okay trust me.... just do not turn on as u cannot switched off the iphone as its need slide to switched off and u cannot see that

I can't believe nobody has asked this yet: Why were you texting in the shower? ;)

I would try the rice trick.

See what happens, but save up for a new one because eventually that water may have caused issues that will crop up later, even if the rice works

Worse comes to worse, just bring it into the apple store and upgrade/crossgrade. They recently loosened up on the water damage thing so you should be able to get a replacement for not too much money.

btw, I know you're beating yourself up (and some folks here are helping too) but really, water and electronics don't mix so taking anything, phone, laptop, 42" flat screen TV, thermonuclear device into the shower is generally not a good idea.

You have to tell us what happens after it finally dries out... if it works or not. The rice thing is interesting. (Putting it in a bag of rice and wait til it dries out) In case you are too young to know, cooks always put a few grains of rice in salt shakers to remove the moisture and keep the salt flowing... so that was a good tip a few of the others gave you. I'm curious to hear if it works or did you just o out and buy a new one?

Just a heads up incase you end up needing to replace your iPhone: I've read elsewhere on this forum that high humidity can change the color of the water sensor in the phone voiding the warranty. From what I read, it appears as though the sensitivity of this water sensor seems to vary in sensitivity so some people have this humidity problem and others don't. So I guess even being in the same room as a shower has the possibility of the triggering this sensor (I used to often leave my phone in the bathroom while in the shower--most of my water sensor still looks white, but part of it looks like it has changed color or maybe it is some debris (it is hard to looks straight down into the headphone jack without blocking my light source)).

You're not texting right now, so why do you have to shorten words? The rest of the users who have posted here are finding it perfectly capable to type out their words fully.
