Maybe using PdaNet via Cydia? Have read that it works for some under 3.0, but not for others.

Yes. Look at the top 2 stickies for that.

jumped to update too soon... it works on 3.0 but it seems like the app goes to sleep and has to reconnect every so often. not too annoying but on OS 2.2 worked like gangbusters.
