Voice Control issue... Very upsetting. Need help.

So just picked up my iPhone 3Gs today. Was pretty happy until I plugged in my cassette adapter to hear my music. Thought it was going to be great to push the Voice Control button and speak what I wanted. Apparently when you plug in a cassette adapter (2 bands) it automatically assumes you are pugging in headphones that contain a mic (3 bands) and it disables the mic on the phone itself. Therefore, since my cassette adapter doesn't have a mic (as I'm sure nobodies does) I can't use the damn feature (ie it doesn't hear me) Anyone have any clue how to tell the phone not to disable the mic on the phone itself?

Other than that I've been pretty impressed with the speed improvements....Very noticeable.

Not quite sure what you're asking here, but have you tried just holding the home button down until it brings up the voice control screen? Then you can give it commands.

The question was how to use the normal microphone when using headphones or another device that you plug into the headset jack.

That's a good one, and I don't know if there's a way. Sure kills the voice commands when connected. I'd suggest bluetooth (don't know how to connect that to your adapter), but even then it might kill the microphone when using 'external' 'speakers'.

Are you sure you couldn't use the phone's built-in mic to give voice commands, even with something connected? I just did this with my car. The car has an aux-in port which I used to play music on my way home today. I used voice command to start playing something.

The recognition wasn't so great, but it did work.

It always did this. I had to remove my cassette adaptor plug from my 3G when I got a phone call. I'm not sure of a fix, though.

I just went out to try this in my truck.
I was able to do the voice control for both the phone and iPod app while connected and playing music over the stereo. Hold the home button down. The music fades on the stereo. You speak and the phone responds over the phone speaker and carries out your command.
I'm using a Sony cassette adapter (7 years old. Bought after my first iPod. Great investment!) and a stock cassette radio in a Toyota truck, FWIW.

I have an AUX in in my truck. Whenever I plug it into my 3GS, Voice Control App automatically pops up. Is this normal? Seems strange to me. I don't really care if it works while it's plugged in or not, I just don't want it to pop up everytime.

Having the same problem as the OP with a Monster stereo cable and my stereo's auxilary input. Seems to totally depend on the cable (as the OP mentioned) since I tried this in my brother's car with a simple radio shack cable and it worked fine.

Extremely disappointing since I was looking forward to controlling the iPod via voice command in the car.
