3G S Will Not Send/Receive SMS

Got my phone this morning and it will not send or receive any SMS messages. The phone is not jailbroken, running 3.0. Everything else on the phone is working properly, though.

When I first got home and synced it up with iTunes, I told it to sync from the last backup (last backup was from my 3G back in February). Could that be the problem? Should I just go back in a set it up as a new phone? Sorry if this was a newb question.

I'm having the exact same problem. Everything else seems to work fine, just no SMS.

Call AT&T. They solved the problem for me.

I was not able to receive any but I could send them. I then got a welcome SMS from AT&T then everything worked after that.

Did you call or text AT&T or was that welcome message just a random message?
